the stock rear bumper looks good enough for me if it is low enough to protect the exhaust. reason I say that is a friend rammed his into something and it shifted the exhaust all the way to the head now constant leaks at donuts and seals problem from then forward so I want simple but PROTECT the muffler chain reaction smashing into something from the rear!!! anyone have pics from a low position of stock rear bumper so I can see if it blocks exhaust or pics of other simple diy rear bumpers thanks as always

very helpful try and find one picture on the internet showing this angel real hard exactly what I was hoping for thanks a lot. u can see how the muffler is still not protected although looks like your hitch does a good job I was thinking of making a hitch that has a bar on top protecting the muffler then still allows u to have a receiver behind it!! but worried that when u put in dump position the bumper might hit? I assume that when u dump your bumper moves with the bed?

imagine if u didn't have that hitch on there and u backed into a stump, that would cause havoc on your exhaust and I'm not talking about the muffler can I'm talking about the pipes and joints further up and donut gaskets. so any chance I could get a pic with dump bed up or let me know if bumper stays still when bed is dumped. If it stays still I will weld some protection off the pumper then have it powder coated if not then some sort of hitch protection still available to receive hitch attachments etc thanks again

The bumper is attached to the bed so it moves with the bed.

The exhaust does look vulnerable there. I can picture a bumper or guard welded to the trailer hitch that may provide some protection, kinda like a brush guard?

Whenever I get time, I'm gonna make my own but use same mounts the strongmade bumper uses (mounting points for the ROPS). I'm either using 2 pieces of 2" channel iron stacked on top of each other, or making a rectangular shaped frame out of square tubing. Haven't decided yet. Love Joey's spare tire carrier. Very functional and easy to remove if not needed.

The spare tire mount? If so I'll see if I have enough tubing to make 2. The 2nd is always alot easier to make

I'd be willing to come help if we can ever match up on off days! I've been thinking I need to bring my trailer over to your place and see if you can help me spot weld my wire mesh on the ramp. it was only welded in a couple of places so they are overstressed. one weld already popped loose.

When @Delton and I rode Bull Run, my pioneer broke thru the expanded metal on my trailer. It can be quite dangerous.

I added some angle along the sides and welded the expanded metal to it and back to the ramp frame. You can see that I also added a piece across the middle for support. I would have added more but the gate is already heavy as the trailer is 6.5' wide.

Heck yeah. I would've hated to hit my ankle on a piece of exposed like that. Would cause some serious damage.
