So my machine is stuck in reverse at camp. Illbbe heading back today with a wrench to manually get it into 1st so I can get it to the trailer. But I'd prefer the machine to actually shift properly. Anyone have any idea where I should start looking for an issue?

Make sure the switches in the steering column (paddle shift switch) are working. If there is no signal it will not shift. I have heard of something getting in to the mechanism and preventing on or the other paddle from working.

Thanks for all the info. Atm, its charging in the off chance the battery is the issue. If not I should be able to manually get it into first with a wrench. My tool set is actually home, so I'll have to find a 10mm?

As for troubleshooting, just look for anything physically obvious? I'm assuming there's a way to test it that motor is getting a signal from the shifter?

Just started over the last week or so. No obvious damage to the wires

Update: Adjusting the clutch seems to have solved the issue for the moment. I think I can dial it in better once home with an actual tool set, but it shifts! So I'm going to assume/hope that's the issue.

Serious big thanks to all those who chimed in. This place is awesome!

In my experience a low battery prevented shifting. New battery all better.

And I would add that it had enough power to start the machine but not to shift.

I've got a 2nd battery sitting at home to hook up a dual battery setup. At the same time I'll likely have the stock on tested and see if it needs to be replaced

Well still having shifting issues, because... why not?

Anyway, here's where I'm at. Was throwing a code for the angle sensor. Swapped that this morning. The display went back to functioning normal, so thats a win. But it won't electronically shift. I can shift thru the gears manually. And I can hear the shifter at the rear of the engine attempting to shift the machine. But it won't quite go. Could the shifter motor be toast?

I've had issues with my 2020 p500, only 60km on it. Not shifting to neutral from reverse or 1st gear. Service dept found that my idle speed was too high causing ECM to not left it shift to neutral. couldn't hear shifting motor even trying to shift.

My 2015 500 likes to quit shift occasionally after riding for a good while. It throws code 41 when it happens. Let it sit for a couple hours and it goes away and shifts fine. I haven't tried to figure it out since its only rode around home. It can happen in any gear, but reverse seems to be where it happens a lot.
