Be leave it or not, that "GEAR" light as always been on. It just so happens that you just now noticed it. If you take a closer look, you will will see that it is back lite with the display. It is not a actual "warning" light of any kind. Honda says, just like the MPH you see, the GEAR light is nothing more then the label for the area the gear position is displayed in. Claiming this allows for fast and easy identification for the end user.

This pertains to both the Pioneer 700 M2/M4 and the Pioneer 500 units.

Back in 2014 the only content was what @Hondasxs put up himself.
I think he was one of 3 people that owned a Pioneer at the time.
Web site has come a long ways since then.
