Hello everybody,
I'm strongly considering a P500 and have a question about trailers. I currently have a Triton flatbed trailer that is 79" wide by 104" long. Honda specs say the pioneer is 102" long. Would you guys feel comfortable carrying the P500 on this small of a trailer? The trailer has e track installed and would use wheel bonnets, which IMHO is the safest and most secure method of strapping down. I've never had my quads move an inch using this.

Thanks!
I have a triton that is longer that yours, its a snowmobile trailer and I can tow my P500 lengthwise with plenty of room or cross ways. It has 12" wheels and not the 8" and it does great. I tow it 50-300 miles frequently and so far no issues.

That's a triton? I thought they only made aluminum trailers but could be wrong. Do you know the payload on that thing?

Nice trailer Dubbs. Looks like it was made for the 500. How is the riding down in Bama as compared to MI?
The only SxS I had when we lived in Michigan was a 2004 Polaris Ranger, 500 that we rode around our farm land and around the lake as well as on the lake when the water got hard. That unit was liberated from my possession around 2009. We rode trails on sleds in the 80's and 90's but not on the SxS. I did haul the P5 back to the farm in 2016 for the last Deer Hunt before I sold the farm and it was great, especially since some of the lanes had narrowed over time. As for here, unfortunately, we have been so busy with family issues since we moved, we haven't had a chance to explore any trail systems yet, but hopefully that will change soon, maybe even get to the 2018 Takeover.

I was told it was a triton but I agree it is most likely not one, I looked at the bill of sell and it says HMD. I will have to check the axle but it does have full size spindles/hubs and 5 bolt pattern and not the typical small wheel 4 bolt pattern and small spindle/hub. Will check it out in daylight tomorrow.

Just my .02 cents. Fwiw

I don't like small single axle trailers unless it's for short hauls 15-25 miles. Buddy had a an aluminum trailer with 8" wheels and that thing ate bearing and hubs. One gentlemen here on the forum was towing a single axle with his P1K5 on it behind his RV, has a blowout and didn't notice it and dragged it for awhile and eventually caught fire I think I'd around $3-5k damage to his pioneer. imho, If your going to make an investment on a nice machine, might as well make an investment to haul it with. I seen a lot of guys hauling their $15k atv ona $350 dollar harbor freight trailer, always blew my mind.

@DaddyDubbs , so your door opening is 72 1/2 inches or 78 inches? Which roof? My OEM roof and 27 tires adds a few inches.

Door opening is 72-1/2" vertical - ceiling height is 78" - I know the OEM roof adds height, I have an EMP roof which is only about 1/2" above top of ROPS
The tire height may be a problem. I'm trying to decide what tire I can upgrade to and not raise overall height of P5 more than 1-1/4"

EMP 04 EMP 08

Well I got a new 2017 P500 today. Left the trailer at home and drove it 300 miles in the bed of my f150 crew cab short box . Took off the front bumper to get me a few inches and put it in frontwards, then put down some 2x10s to hopefully take some weight off the tailgate. Got it home and drove it around for as much as I could tolerate in 10 degree temps with snow. So far we love it. Reminds me of an off-road golf cart.

Ready to shop for new enclosed trailer for P500 and Rancher atv. Debating on 7x16 or 8.5 by 20. Pulling with Silverado 5.3 1/2 ton Z71 4wd. Any insight on which trailer size?

Need extra door height (78” for tires and roof clearance). Been looking at a Spartan brand upgraded custom made for around $5k.

If you're going 300+ miles regularly plan on getting a bigger truck too.

A trailer is kinda like an out building, bigger is better.

Not saying a bigger truck is a bad idea, but it's more about tow rating and what you are using it for.
My 2011 VW Touareg has a better ride, is more responsive, has better gas mileage and a higher tow rating than my 2004 Suburban did.
2017 VW Touareg stats: Towing capacity: 7,716 lbs - MPG: 17 city / 23 highway - Dimensions: 189″ L x 76″ W x 68″ H - Horsepower: 280 hp
The 2011 has made three fully loaded trips from Michigan to Alabama when we moved, pulling an enclosed trailer. Empty up to MI but fully loaded heading to AL.
For example...
20151006 143411 SUV loaded, check
20151006 143500 Trailer side door, check
20151006 143638 Trailer rear, check

No problem pulling at highway speeds.
Also a round trip from Alabama to Michigan and back with the P5 in the enclosed trailer to hunt my farm one last time before we sold it.

Not saying you can't do it. Next size up truck will most likely give you better mileage and hold up much better. A friend of mine found out the hard way....lost his differential at 80,000 miles towing similar loads 4 hours each way about 5 times a year. Short runs you can get away with about anything, but on long hauls the trailer can't be small enough and the truck too big.
