I am hoping to bring home my new to me 520 this weekend. It has the hard plastic roof on it I will be trailering it on a landscaping trailer. Do I need to remove the roof for trailering it I will be towing it at highway speeds for a about 1.5 hours. Also are there good tie down points or should I say what is the best way to strap it in?

Find something secure on the 520 and go with it. The Talon has a hole in the back end for towing and tying down, it's obvious. The front has a bumper, again obvious. Although I prefer not tying to the radius rods or A-arms, they're sturdy enough to get you home.

Your first tie down, far from home where you won't be able to add something like the Erickson system.

Home Depot china straps, $18 a pair -

Dealership straps, $48 a pair. The towing hole is just below the D-shackle that I added later.

I am on the other side of the fence. Been using solid body points to tie down for over 20 years on the ATV's and all it does is destroy the shocks and make for lopsided machines. I didn't want that with my new P520, so I started using axle straps on the A-arms and will never go back. Even switched to it on the quads I like it so much.

After unloading, the axle straps go with me as they make for nice small attachment points for snatch block shackles.

You got any pics of your setup on the trailer?

The stock steel wheels have holes, perforations, that are maybe 3/4” diameter and maybe 2” center-to-center apart. It is easy to hook one of my ratchet tie-down hooks in one hole and out the adjacent hole. Somewhere I saw a post where it was recommended that such an attachment be used with each of the four wheels to tie down a Pioneer 500. Seems potentially pretty sturdy. May I ask, does anyone have insight into whether this is advisable?

Nothing wrong with that IMO. The problem for me would be that I couldn't get the hook into that position. I'm surprised that they were actually able to do that. If the hook won't fit into the rim like that, you could run soft ties through the rim and hook to them. Note that the rim will probably cut soft ties, sooner than later.

I've used these convenient steelie tie down points when the P5 is in the bed of my truck for extra insurance straps. Just have to keep in mind if using them as a primary point nothing really prevents that wheel (especially so front wheels) from turning except opposing forces with other straps.

If the tire were to slip at all, even the slightest, it seems it would case slack and the strap to loosen, no? And once there is just a little play, it would make it easier to move even more, causing a domino effect of moving and loosening. Maybe not? Just a thought.....

True. To help prevent that, the strap centerline should line up with the axle centerline like the above photo.

Yes sir. I must have read right past that. I had to scroll up to see if there was a picture. You must have already been thinking of it 👍

Here's a side view, just so you know what & why. It is 99.9% of the time just the P520 these days as I am 99.9% of the time solo. Had a couple people out last weekend.

Anyway, I usually pull forward with the front A-arms and back with the rear. We built this trailer for three quads over 20 years ago, so with limited space I had to cross straps to pull tight. The orange one in the middle is holding the ramps.

I am using Rhino USA heavy axle straps on the P520 and lighter soft straps on the 2000 Rachet es. I have safety straps with spring clips (I should have ordered at the same time) coming next week.

This is the rear on the P520

And these are the front.

I store the extra strap material behind the side doors.

I now do the same thing with the quads using soft straps to save what's left of the shocks.

I bought Erickson for my trailer too. I hope to get them installed either today or on Saturday. I will take a picture as soon as I am done with the P520 on it.

Well my new to me pioneer 520 made it home safe and sound. We had zero issues. I forgot to grab a picture of it on the trailer but here is one of it in the driveway.
