Hey guys, does anyone know what specifically the problem is and how to fix it when the P1K transmission won't shift out of first gear? It's got to be a common problem because it's even mentioned in the owner's manual. I followed manual instructions and it worked for 30 minutes and then did the same thing. This time nothing I did would make it shift out of first. I need this for work pronto and don't have time for a 3 week-dealer-trial and error visit-and still not fix it episode. Help please! Thx guys.

Off hand.. seat belt, voltage, ground or maybe a shift cable linkage?
Thanks but mine doesn't have seat belt limiter (2016). Do you know where the ground connections are? I think there are three to check. Thanks again JTW

My first thought was the solenoid. Impossible to shift from first to second clutch if the solenoid isn't getting voltage or is dead. I could be wrong though.

I do know the front speed sensor in the differential has to get a signal from the front tires rolling to shift out of first gear.

Anything happen to it lately? Stick jammed into frame or something? Any work done? Not common for this to happen out of the blue.
Not that I'm aware of but for the very first time since I've owned it, I had a really hard time getting it started. It would just sputter at a really low rpm and die. After about ten tries, it finally fired up and purred like a kitten. I'll check my ground wires and report back this evening. Thanks all!!!

I don't think it's dead because when I followed the manual's troubleshooting procedure, it all worked again perfectly for about 30 minutes. Then went down again and I couldn't make it shift after that. Also..."see owners manual" icon lights up on the dash when this condition is present. Could be battery going bad with extreme heat lately or ground. Thanks!!!

I'd try popping in a fresh battery. It looks easy to kill these tiny OEM battery and it's 3 years old anyway.

Video!!! Upload a video of your dash showing what is going on. There should be a trouble code shown on the instrument cluster. Upload to youtube, share the link here. It will assist us greatly in helping troubleshoot.

I thought of that this morning. Before I started it, batt voltage was 12.57 volts. While idling, batt voltage was 13.85 volts. Didn't have a helper to bring revs up but I suspect the voltage would've been a solid 14.0 VDC above idle. Batt and alt seem to be in order but thank you for your response!

Update... First of all, thank you all for your help! First thing I did was adjust my Turf/2WD/Park cable adjustments in the box behind the driver's seat. (they were WAY off!!!) I've been wanting to do that and now my Turf/2WD lock/4WD/4WD lock works flawlessly including the dash display for the first time since I bought it! I didn't think this would have anything to do with the DCT behaviour, but maybe it did. Next, I checked all my ground wires hoping to find one loose so I could have a reason for my problems but they were all tight. So after adjusting cables, verifying proper grounding, voltage good, I ran the SOB for 14 hours straight without a hiccup. And I never would've known that the front and rear diffs had speed sensors in them and that if your rear tires are spinning faster than your fronts...you ain't gettin second gear in auto or manual mode (Thanks snuffinwhisky) - I tried it on jack stands. So I'm gonna peg it on the box behind the driver's seat being out of adjustment and interfering with the speed sensor. What do ya'll think?

Thank you sir but there never were any trouble codes thrown. Just the "see owner's manual" idiot light.

And what I thought was a "see owner's manual" light was actually the "EPS" malfunction light that was shown on the dash... (there is no see owner's manual" light DUH!!!). I'm convinced it was a ground wire problem even though they were all tight. Maybe a funky crimp job or corrosion setting in. Anyway-she's purring like a well fed kitten now! Thanks again guys!
