Installed a Rear seat cargo rack for my Talon 1000X-4 in preparation for an overland trip. Haven’t seen these mentioned on here so I thought I’d share. I purchased from MXPowerplay on Sunday, shipped Monday and here Tuesday. It was a good bit cheaper than Rocky Mountain ATV. Tusk Seat Cargo Rack Kit #184470-P. You must buy each side seperate with different part number.

First impressions.

Quality seems good and install was super simple. Just remove seat frames install mounts and then top plate.

Pros: Nice flat surface, lots of tie down options. Still can store items on floorboard. I’m hopeful that a packout mount will work nicely on it or I’ll mount some rigid boxes.

Cons: I wish the back side would have went closer to plastic. Since rear is tilted I think it’s a loss of usable space. Seat belt latches stick through, yes they could be unbolted. I have a rotopax that fit nice and secure on floorboard, no longer can fit it there. Probably other options for it

Looks good Vondy. One day I may tackle a design for this.
They set the deck level even with the console cup holders for the highest point to clear and have a flat surface all the way across.

Be nice to have a hinge for better floor access when needed and to use the space under the deck.

Yeah, I was hoping you would come out with one.

I think removing the cup holders and lowering the base would be nice, but this keeps it simple. Also allows use of cup holders if you only use one side and still have 1 rear passenger.

Hinges to access floor probably wouldn't be too hard to add. I would have to see if the brackets would get in way of putting the rotopax down there. I really liked carrying it down there, the one I have fit perfectly and did not move at all.

I've got a start on the front seat deck plate but I've been so busy staying above water with the intakes, I've not revisited it. I like to let ideas simmer for a while anyway!
I'd really like someone to make one that only requires removal of the seat cushion and not the entire seat frame. I made a janky one that I could throw in and ratchet strap but I hate dealing with all that.

I took a seat base, chopped it up and mounted a board to it. Works ok, but moves around some. Keeping room for lid to open and seat back there really limits space.

I’ll bring it if you want to look at it. Trying to decide if I want to keep it or get rid of it.

I did something similar but just ratchet strapped it down instead of using the seat base. It works but it's ugly and not easy to pull in and out.

Figured out a good setup. Should offer enough overland storage for myself and passenger.

Packout base for each side mounted to the tusk cargo rack. Strapped a piece of pipe insulation around then grab bar to keep it from rattling against the bar or rattling at all. I did trim the outside edge of each base so that it wouldn’t cover the bolts for the top of cargo rack. Makes it so I don’t have to take packout base off to remove the cargo rack.

I have to say the Packout set up worked flawless this trip. I unloaded my Packout boxs into @Vondy rig and snapped mine in, they stayed secured through some pretty tough trails.

Installed one side of these myself and agree that they're solid, but I plan on modifying them for access to under seat and also footwell.

A 5 gallon jerry can for fuel or water fits perfect in the footwell and keeps the weight low. So I'll likely hinge or simply cut off the part above the footwell. Then a simply piano wire or some sort of hinge so can access the area below the deck would be cool.

Did you ever get the chance to design/build a flat rack for Talon X-4 rear seat? I don’t like having to take the rear seat mounts out to mount the Tusk ones. Would like to be able to put seats back in more easily.

No sir I have not progressed this design mainly due to two factors. I don't have a 4 seat to work with and once the intake prefilters tookoff I spend a lot of time building those!
