I'm starting my build thread late as I figured that the winch, tires, leds etc are covered.

I don’t see many hardwater setups so this is where I’ll start on my base P1000-5 eps.

Borrowing with pride from other builds I have a Honda roof and 2 piece windshield. Also installed: aux batt, led light bar, 5k HF winch, switch panel and spare fuse box, turn signals and horn.

This weekend I installed the factory soft doors, mid and rear panels. Fit and finish is okay...but really lacking for sub zero windy days ice fishing. Can’t say I was impressed with the huge gap at the top of the mid panel and the large gaps in the lower doors. To correct the gaps I used window ac foam blocks for the mid panel and above the front doors on the roof. For the lower doors I used tailgate seals I purchased off eBay. They work awesome! Wipe the plastics with alcohol and apply. I flipped the hinge side so that the bulb pinches vs wiping.

While installing the doors I realized that it would be awesome to use my helix 9 off my boat. This way I can locate my honey holes faster and get off the ice in heavy fog safely.

One spare ball mount, a power cord and a ubolt later I mounted my helix.

You did good, I really like what you did with the weather stripping around the doors. It probably helps quite any rattles as well.
Well Done!

Is the tractor the Jubilee model?

Sharp eye!

Yes it’s a ‘53 Golden Jubilee. We are expecting a snow storm starting tonight and I have everything crunched in my shop to get my super duty out of the weather.

It’s tranny is stuck between gears. I’ll split it and add a Sherman OD to it and finish restoring it this spring.

I think I’m really going to like the gullwing doors on the rears plus the rear panel. It really should help keep my gear free of snow and less having to ride in my shelter sled.

My 08 Polaris ranger worker great, but all my gear was always exposed.

Shown are propane ice auger, vexilar sounder , FishPhone, shovels, bait bucket, heater and 20lb propane tank with 12’ lead. I use the big tank vs the little bottles on my buddy heater.

Probably worn shifting forks, if I recall correctly (It has been a long time ago) the plate the shifter comes up through. If you lift the plate and align the two blocks with the slots cut into them for the rounded end of the shift lever, you should be good to go.

Thanks! It makes a big difference. Definitely reduces the rattles as well. I plan on doing the rear doors but ran out of materials.

I still need to add a heater yet....that’s the only real thing that keeps the cold at bay on the ice.

Yep the previous owner was pretty hard on the shift linkages....they are in tough shape but salvageable with some tig work and a dremel. It’s stuck in 2nd and reverse. Tried everything to get it unstuck including spin get motor backwards. I need to add the Sherman to it anyways so I will split the tranny and fully overhaul it. I’ll toss seals at the motor, rewire and paint this spring / winter.

It will join my other restoration in tractor drives and parades.

Nice, I have a 48’ 8N with Jubilee hydraulic pump in the tranny. They use pretty much the same trans. It’s easy to un stick the gears, it’s happens to me a few times. If you remove all the blots where the shifter is, you can wiggle loose the shifter fork easily and remove that. Then use a pry bar with moderate force wile wiggling the tractor back and forth, the gears become unstuck. It’s a very common thing with those Sherman trans’s, typically when guys use the PTO without the torque adapter with brush hogs and Finnish mowers. Just didn’t know if you knew that?

Thanks for the advice. The tractor had a Sherman combo at one time, but currently doesn’t. I’m adding it back to it.

I’ve tried it all, big ass pry bars, jacking, cheaters, winches, etc. I’m to the point that since I’m rebuilding it, I’m going to split it and rebuild the forks and pilot bearings as I need to reinstall the Sherman combo unit I purchased for it.

I have a spare parts 54 NAA that has a free tranny that I’ll borrow parts from if needed.

Nice fishing setup. After you have been out in the snow give some feedback on how the rear flip-up doors work. I don't have the rear doors but otherwise I have a similar setup with "Eagle" 72" plow. Just interested in how much snow still sneaks in the back. Lots of snow on the way.

Will do.

I hope to hit the ice this weekend. I haven’t had the rig out in the snow yet. Ice thickness in mid SD is a bit spotty at the moment. Not sure I want to see if my Honda floats. I hope the colder temps add a few more inches of ice soon.

Been seeing small quads out and some larger flip overs out. Further north by the ND border it’s definitely thick enough for utv’s.

The rear doors do have a decent triangular gap at the top of the door right at the top of the b pillar. Not sure how big ideal it is as it’s about 1” at the widest point.

My concerns for snow and ice performance lie with the factory tires...I’m trying to not replace them, and definitely don’t want tracks (I do other things with my rig that tracks won’t survive). My 08 ranger had gbc dirt tamers that were awesome in the deep snow and ice.

Switched out my factory Bighorns with Tensor Regulators since I drive about 3/4 mile to the ice. So far they seem good but deep snow is on the way so they will get tested. About 10-12 inches ice around here.IMG 2197

For those whom haven’t ice fished before, they are a float suit for in the event of falling through the ice. Combined with ice picks it greatly improves your chance of self rescue vs regular carharts. Not really part of the build, but important imo.

So I got the heater installed last weekend.

Of course like a dummy I don’t have and blue Honda smurf juice on hand and nearest source is 60 mi away. I installed the heater any way thinking I won’t spill that much...yeah right.

Long story short, tonight I stupidly think I can start it up and the air will work it’s way out as the radiator and overflow tank are still full. I get the ole girl warmed up and sure enough the temp light comes on. Check radiator temp and it’s ice cold. Then like a dummy I think I can just gently crack the radiator cap and attempt to relieve the air in the system.

Due to the cap being recessed I apply too much torque and boom, smurf juice 6’ fountain!

Luckily I was wearing my winter jacket and gloves and hat.

Maybe I should have read that cap warning closer....
