Which one is better for snow plow? 700 or 1000-5?

Which UTV should I get a plow for ?

Newbie here. I am in the process of outfitting my two recent purchases a 700 and a 1000-5. I am thinking about starting with 700 (already ordered a roof and a superatv windshield).

I have a new Western MVP+ on my F250, but I think that a smaller straight plow will help me with clean up and light snow falls. My question is which one should I get the plow for?

Because of my elevation and the reduced HP at 9,300 ft, that the 1000 would be stronger, but I think the 700 has a better clutch (from what I’m reading).

Thanks,

Ive plowed with both and preferred the 700. The first gear is a perfect range in mph for plowing.

I’ve only plowed with the 1000-5 and it’s power may be too much for standard plow set ups! I also had a clutch failure while plowing but had gotten it stuck and was aggressively rocking it back and forth to get it out! But with the right technique and due care the 1000 is very capable!

Here is a short video...

I have never plowed snow, but i have had both machines and I would think the trans set up on the 700 would be better.

Do not have to worry with snow plowing here...but from the many other post on here I have read....the 700 has been the one people seem to lean to!

I would also say the 700, but that 9300' figure has me really worried. Really worried.

Unless you can find someone in the same locale with a 700 plowing and see for yourself, I'd have to say don't bother and use the 1000.

use the 700, you know it will handle it, I'd be scared using p1k in fear of smoking clutches.

That's my biggest turn off on the 1000 and hopefully the clutch update might help with that. I really think the 700 is better suited for plowing. I usually just putt around about 1 or 2 mph plowing a couple of inches of snow and I just don't think the 1000 can handle that slow of speed. When I get to the end of where I'm plowing, I usually just keep pushing on the pile while lifting the plow up to make the pile higher. I've learned you move it when you can. The 700 just stalls out until it eventually pushes it up. After 2 years doing it this way, the 700 just keeps going. @Eltobgi video with that much speed just scares me with all the crap I got laying around with the chance to hit. I actually got pretty confident plowing one day and got a little speed. Well along story short, there was a layer of ice under the snow which sent me into my pasture corner post. Nothing 4 HOURS of fixing the push tube couldn't take care of. Slow and steady wins the race.

Lol, that video was my very first attempt at pushing snow. I believe it was auto high 4WD Diff lock! Later used low Manual 4WD and kept it in first! With the right technique the 1000 has power to spare especially when moving huge piles of snow! I agree slow and steady is the right technique for pushing!

But if I had my choice I would choose P500 because of its small size and maneuverability and save the Beast for playing;)

I’ve plowed with it this year twice moving about 6” of snow and you can barely tell your pushing snow! I will get new video after the next snow fall to share using the GOPRO!

Only plowed with a P1000-3 and it is a pleasure. Plow mostly in 2WD too.

What kind of spacers did you use for the front springs?

It's good to see you have plenty of extra power with the 1000. I really think if they get the clutch figured out with this current update I will probably upgrade to a Beast myself. Thanks.

hello just me, lol
im usually a reader in forums but you hit the reason why i purchased a 700. im in Alaska at 1200 feet above sea level. didn't want an ol beat up truck sitting in my yard that i would only plow with. so side by side was the way to go for me.

Personally my 700 is a tank when i get chains on it. The type of snow we get, slow and steady plowing is best. but ya know, i feel the most important for my plowing pleasure is the accessories. Chains, lights, hard cab all around, and a heater..
