I was at tractor supply to pick up some angle on Friday but they only had one piece in stock so I figured I'd just wait and get both pieces at the same time. Fast forward a few hours and I could have really used those damn things...

Agree 100%. 1/2” uhmw is the best investment you can make. You just never know what your going to find along the trail. It’s usually always a surprise that does the damage. I prefer to do my own skid plates and now that I’ve done a few it’s just as fast as mounting an prebuilt aftermarket. I like my own because I end up with way few joints and holes. On both the p700 and p1 k units I’ve done. I’ve split the plates so that the 2 outside plates that extend out past the side rub bars also fit firmly beside the frame. This is so that any pressure on the skid that extends past the rub bars is transmitted directly to the frame. No pressure on the mounting bolts. The center part of skid which I make out of a single piece from front to back also extends sideways past the frame to protect the joint with the side plates. The uhmw slides over everything from rocks to trees and mud and muskeg. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I know lots of people who don’t go for the heavy skid plate till after they have to pay for an engine or some other damage. Then they don’t think the heavy skid plate is expensive at all. The aluminum skid plate on the p1k LE is ok. But personally, I would take it off and sell it and go with a full uhmw. Happy trails.

Another one here in total agreement. 1/2” UHMW front to back, side to side on my 2017 1000-5D since nearly brand new. This material glides across and does not dent unlike aluminum. I looked around for choices 3 years ago. I got mine from MODQUAD Racing. While their joint configurations and coverage protection were fine for me, they missed a couple important attachment points, spacer near front and misaligned holes. We worked together to correct some issues. I did some modifications: new holes to ventilate grossly overheated catalytic can, additional mount points and debris drains, swapped their fasteners to my hardened metrics etc. To do it again, I would also extend UHMW out 1” beyond side rail tubes for more protection.
I’m a huge fan and believer of this Honda which I enjoy very much. Honda marketing this machine with lack of adequate underside cross bracing, minimum clearances to vital components, then throwing on a nearly nonexistent under protection AND with the inherent heat problems from engine and exhaust components, is very disappointing. If it wore a belt like most, it would have been at the bottom of my list.

Just installed a Trail Armor full skid. Installation would have been easier with it on a lift or on its side, but I fought with it on the ground. Very pleased so far.

This was just posted on Facebook, P700. What if this happened to you with a child was in that seat and having proper underbelly protection would have prevented that from happening.

Full coverage skids, a wise investment.

Definitely an investment to protect your machine and your legs. DIY wheel well plates and a skid plate that took hits.

Any concern with taking these off and on? Screws not holding?

I'd really like to take mine off when I change my oil and diff fluid this winter.

A lot of us have replaced the self tapping screws with nutserts or weld nuts and actual bolts. Makes removing the skids easy.

Do those go in the frame tubing or through the skid plate first? I'd like to have something I can take on and off with less concern for stripping than the cutting screws.

Todd can fix you up, he’s done this a time or two.

Can you be more specific? Do these go into the frame tubing then bolts and washers? I do not weld and don't want to pay someone to weld the nuts.

I have this tool. I've used it to install about 75-100 inserts in my machine. For skid plates I used MY

rzx 8" RIVET NUT GUN M3 M4 M5,m6 ,1/4-20m10-24, 8-32 , 6-32,Hand Riveter Rivet Gun, Riveting Tools with Nut Setting System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XVB3MMG/?tag=sxsweb24-20

I like the Astro Pneumatic nutserts. I have pretty much all the sizes standard and metric

Astro Pneumatic Tool RN6M M6 6mm Steel Rivet Nuts (100 Piece) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J7X4DKS/?tag=sxsweb24-20

I use these bolts with Honda washers on my skid plate. I like the 8mm head in case the washers get damaged the smaller 8mm socket usually still fit where as I've had issues with the larger Honda 10mm bolts getting stuck under the bent washers

Pit Posse 25pc Piece Metric... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GXJIUAO?tag=sxsweb24-20

I find a unibit drills the best holes for the inserts. Drill bits tend to drill an oval hole in the thin Honda frame pieces

If there are any self tapping screws used it’s a perfect time to replace those with rivnuts. They work excellent.
