new fender flares

decided this weekend that I was tired of mud slung all over my 700-4 so it was time for some flares. ive been reading the different forums and looking at all of you guys making them for my ideas. this is what I came up with. I was able to cover that stupid gap between the floorboard and the side panel behind the front tire while I was at it. my original plan was to roll the bottoms under the bottom of the machine but in the process of molding the top to the fender I got to looking at it and liked the straight down look. only problem with that is if you reverse on a log etc it would likely rip it of. I decided to cut the bottoms just slightly higher than the frame rails and add rubber hanging down for the needed length the rubber will just fold if it hits something. haven't put it in any mud yet but I think this is going to work well. what yall think

I think they look great. What thickness abs plastic did you use? Did you use the push pins everyone talks about? Lots of questions but I would like to put a set on mine. I like the idea of the rubber on the bottom.

Sks, that looks good. I have been wanting to build mine as well.
I see the rubber is just a cheap standard mud flap but what about the abs. Ya would like to know where you sourced from and sizing?

Any ideas on the rear? The P4 setup may be challenging.

i used 1/16" abs. i purchased it from a local plastic supply. do a search in your area for plastic supply you will likely find more than you would think. i was able to purchase a 4'x8' sheet for $26. as for attaching them yes i used the plastic rivets like is used to attach other pieces of fenders on your honda and basically every other atv produced. i used 8mm? iirc. i purchased 3 bags of 50 on amazon for about $8. the rubber is actually some cheap floor mats i had laying around. they can be had at walmart, autozone etc for less the $10 but i think any thin rubber should work. these just happend to have the design in them that flowed with the fender well so thats what i used.

the back fenders on the p4..... yeah those are going to be challenging. i have an idea that i am going to give a shot. i mocked everything in cardboard and taped them in place before i ever moved to the plastic. that is my plan for the rears also. hunting season is getting very close and i would like to have the rears completed before then so hopefully i can find some time to work on it this weekend. will post up what i come up with. one thing i will add. i originally planned to heat the abs with my heat gun. i started with it and very quickly moved to the propane torch. it works much quicker just be careful not to heat to much. i tested it on a couple pieces of scrap that i had trimmed off before heating the actual piece i was working on to get a feel for it.

Thanks for the come back. I stopped at a plastic shop today and they wanted 59.00 bucks for a sheet. I will be checking around now for a better price. I will also order those push pins from amazon to. I saw the torch on your bench in the picture and figured that is what you used. I think I will be working nights on this project after hunting. It is coming into our rut here in Wisconsin and I love to bow hunt. Just maybe I will be taking my new pioneer 700-4 to haul out that big whitetail buck. I will post some pictures when I am done. I am looking into making my 700-4 street legal also.

Looks like SKS used a 15" wide sheet, but a 12" wide should work just the same.
Quick measurement and I think a 1x4 sheet is what I need, then cut to fit.

Found a decent online source.

Can get 4 - (1' x 4') sheets for under $50 delivered, pending on where you live!
Not too bad seeing I'm not sure where a supplier is within a 40 min drive.
Factor in time and gas I might just be ordering!

so I'm not having much luck on the rear fenders. the same approach won't work because when you open the rear doors it smashes the flares together. I was able to make some improvements mainly to the passenger foot well. it should help with mud getting into the floorboard I think. im also considering just some short flaps on the back of the rear fenders. not to sure they will make much difference though. might see if I can find a way to temporarily attach them for trial before I drill holes in the bed and they not do any good. made a couple other items while I was at it. removed the warning label and made a panel to fit there. also made a scabbard for my can knife and mounted it to the angle iron I have across the headrests where my gun boot mounts. anyone else have any ideas for the rear fenders?

I was figuring it would have to be a 3 piece job. Lower flap, door flap, and rear flap. All overlapping somehow making a complete splash guard.

Defiantly some trial and error with duck tape and cardboard. Lol

Was able to get some more work done. Nothing fender related but thought it was worth sharing. I had some fast straps from emp laying around so I attached those to my sheath and relocated it to the rear roll bar out the way but still accessible when needed plus I can remove it all together in seconds.

Also made a deck under the front hood and mounted my horns. Waiting on my daystar switches and fuse block/power distribution block. That will be mounted on this deck. The horns are LOUD their from harbor freight but had good reviews so I picked them up. I am really surprised. They were $9 on sale and came with a relay. No wire harness or switch though. Going to use a momentary daystar for the switch.

Nice.
ABS sure is being put to good use. I wonder.. can a slim line roof be made with ABS? What are your thoughts?

I see no reason that it couldn't. I actually had the full sheet stored on top of my roof when I brought it home and was thinking that very thing. I would think some 1/8" would work very well for that purpose. I priced a sheet of that and it was $58 at the same place I purchased the 1/16".

Thanks for the post, good job I made some out of 1/8" abs for my 700 2p. I didn't take as low as yours because of where I ride. Thanks again for your post.

lynn did you find that on the rears you were getting he bulk of the mud at the back? was thinking of adding short flaps at the back but was't sure it would be worth the effort.

Well I left the approx last 6 or 7" uncovered on the back and mud flew straight up and covered the back of the box and some landed inside the bed box. On the front I brought the flares around the curve at the bottom cause the mud came up and got on the back half of my side windows. It's much better now and nothing is hanging down below the outer frame to get torn off.
