My father-in-law is thinking about purchasing a new UTV. He is 68 years old, and a large guy with a bad back. He asked me about what kind of machine would be a good fit for him. I’m defiantly going to suggest he look at a Honda 700-4 or more favorably a 1000-5 as he will like the room for grandkids.

With his age and back issues, a comfortable ride will be high on the priority list. Which trim model will give him the best ride? I know that suspension components change between trim levels. I just don’t know if ride quality will be different?

1000 LE comes with better suspension from the factory and will provide they best stock ride. Otherwise he could get a Base model and put aftermarket suspension for a better ride

If he wants comfort the 1000 over the 700 for sure. But may want to look at the yamaha wolverine as well. Bucket seats are typically more comfortable for the majority of us.

The pioneer 1000 may be rough on him if he has a hard time with the jerky throttle. I know my father hasn’t gotten used to it in two years. He throws me around just backing out of the garage.

I think the wolverine may sit a little to low for him. He won’t do well getting in and out of a lower machine. Is the LE the only package that comes factory with fox shocks?

Yes but you can add them for around $1400

Well we went to the dealer today. My Father-in-law really liked the P1000-5 deluxe. He sat in a 700, and it wasn’t roomy enough for him. Not gonna lie, checking out that deluxe kind of made me wish I would have went with that one instead of the base model.

Personally, I'd tell him to step up to the LE. When you set those Fox shocks on soft, the ride is smooth as hell. Not good for full tilt rippin', but great for putting around.

Well he ended up going with a 2018 P1000-5 deluxe. Got his SuperATV flip-out windshield and Honda hard roof installed tonight. He is super excited!
