I heard there was a pioneer 500 up at the dealer so I got off work and scooped up a green one. I rode it around the neighborhood and I am pleased...just wish the steering wheel was a little straighter.

Awesome Michael.
You are our first official owner of a P500. Congratulations.
Once you get a little mud on it you know we want to see a pic... lol.
Now that you own a Pioneer, I would love to see you around more.

Michael. Tell us about its stability. Full speed, Slow Speed, taking corners?
That is one of my concerns.

My steering wheel was tilted its a simple fix. Just take it off and center it.

It feels pretty stable, I've taken some quick corners and it never felt top heavy. I got mine up to 41 mph. You can grab one side of the roll bar and rock the wheels off the ground, might help if you get high centered. Shifting is pretty smooth when you let off the gas a little. If you don't lift of the gas it still shifts great it just sounds a little clunky. Something about not letting off the gas and shifting doesn't seem right to me so I let off.

Put about 20 miles of trails on her yesterday. Went through some water holes, got stuck once but rocked it out. Even caught a little air. being able to select what gear you want to be in is awesome. It climbed hills with ease. This thing is a creeper, I am very happy with it.

Nice. The fact you actually rocked it in mud is a plus. This 700 want budge. I defiantly envy you being able to hold a gear or change on command. I see the 500 as a gateway sxs for what Honda is bringing out next. Can't wait.

Sounds fun, but I'm still shocked they didn't give the 500 Front Diff Lock!?

It would be nice if the front did lock but in my eyes its not a deal breaker. I have had a 420 rancher for 6 years and went pretty much everywhere without a front locker. Just tap or slightly hold the front break and it will throw the power to the other side. The 500 is going to be a very capable machine.

Michael, Glad to hear somebody else is enjoying the new model as much as we did at the test drive. They are very capable bone stock. Bringing mine home Friday and me and the wife are gonna play all weekend!

Okay. What is the trick to getting the steering wheel fixed on this thing? I love it so far but the steering wheel is driving me nuts. I asked the dealer to fix it before I took it home but he didn't and I was so excited to load it on the trailer that I didn't notice it until I got home.

take off the hood and take the bolts out of the upper and lower joint where the splines are. once you get it loose slide it down so it comes off the steering wheel splines. turn the wheel straight and slide back on, tighten your bolts back up. I did it by myself but it would help to have an extra hand to hold the wheel straight, hope this helps. oh yeah and make sure your wheels are straight before you go taking it apart

Yes. Any point you can to prevent inner rust of the piping. If you play in water you will have rust drips for the first few trips. This is normal on all Honda ATV and I'm sure all ATV AND SxS's.
