Howdy from Oklahoma Rob, and welcome to the club. That is a clean looking P5. One comment on the 1 1/4" to 2" hitch adapter.
I had the same one on my P5, and because it stuck out so far, it would drag if I went through a small dip, depression, or ditch.
are you saying I should switch to a 2" ball/reciever in lieu of the 1-7/8" ball? right now I have a 1-7/8" ball

No, he's referring to the insert you have in your 1 1/4" square receiver tube that is stock on your P500. The insert/adapter makes it hang much further off the back, which can be a problem when running through dips.

Welcome from Nevada! Nice looking rig! Welcome to the club. I've benefitted greatly from these folks. Lot's of knowledge hanging around in here - just ask 'em . . . Not shy about letting you know if it's a stupid question or you didn't do enough research either. :) Ps. Who'da thunk Gretchen would allow so many good dudes to live in her little Russian state. Sheesh, just look at how many replies from Michigan in this thread alone!

If you find your hitch adapter bottoms out as has been previously mentioned you should look into either the Moose Industries or MFG Supply 2" hitch receiver as it not only moves the hitch up higher (preserving the 1-1/4") but also stiffens the rear end.
I have the MFG Supply receiver as it was less expensive and better availability than the Moose at that time, however both have increased in price.

Here is a step by step link on installing the Moose receiver: P500 - Moose 2" Receiver Hitch Installation

BTW - This group is also very good at spending other peoples money - See, I just suggested how you can lighten your wallet  .

Cherish this day and every day forward now and forevermore, that you too have vanquished the ideology of being a non owner of your very own Honda mechanical human catapulting system. It will send you, if you have the mind for it; to broadened horizons and vistas unseen!

If you do not want to go to one of the heavy duty 2" receivers and just need a 7/8" ball, (and a shorter setup than you have now) you might look at something like this........... https://www.amazon.com/HICKS-Mount-Hitch-Winch-Strap/dp/B08R798Y7L/ref=sr_1_16?crid=1D01IH81Z7XO5&keywords=atv+hitch+ball+mount+1+1/4+inch&qid=1699834879&s=automotive&sprefix=atv+hitch+ball+mount+1+1/4+inch,automotive,117&sr=1-16
Saw that setup and thought...that ball is a permanent ball on there right? it's a 1-7/8" ball and you can't remove it right?

Yes, it is permanent. I have a similar hitch with a permanent 2" ball. There may be one with the 1&1/4" hitch available somewhere with a changeable ball, but I haven't seen one.

Hi there. That machine is way too clean, come back when it's muddy.

That's also a heck of a rear rack, what is that?
