Bought mine (base rig) for $8,600. Estimated shipping to me in AK was $1,100, but turned into two grand by the time it arrived. (Gotta love those "extra" fees.) Every accessory has had ridiculous shipping added to it, so I'm over $15,000 in mine. Best money I've ever spent. Ha!

I agree
Me too. I'm thinking the 500 would work better on these super tight trails around here.
I agree having one of each already (P500 & P1K) they each have their niche.

What you like about the Pioneer 500?
Grab a chair;
1. It fits in the back of a pickup truck easily.
2. It will go anywhere and ATV will go.
3. Fits on all 50" gated trails.
4. You select an hold the gear you want with paddle shifters
5. Engine braking works awesome to crawl down very technical hills with barely using the brakes .
6. It costs less than $8K if you buy it right
7. No belts. & Typical Honda reliability.
8. Versatility of the rear rack instead of a plastic bed with sides. < Makes it easier to see a pull behind mower etc.
9. They are just plain fun due to the overall maneuverability.
10. Quiet on the trail and you can bring a companion along and all you gear. Great for hunting etc.

That's my top 10 reasons. There is a hundred others but if you don't have one you won't understand until you have seat time in it vs. a full size 62"+ wide SxS.

The weakest links on the P500, not necessarily dislikes but areas capable of improvement for better ownership experience:

1. OEM 23" diameter tires are lacking for a 1000# machine. Had 26x9 Roctanes on mine before it left the dealership.
2. Suspension could be better add another 1.5" travel like the Honda 500 Rubicon and valve it accordingly for the SxS weight.
3. Seating that is solid, even if still in two sections, from bottom up to the headrest (like bucket seats) would resolve a lot of heat complaints
4. Underbelly protection - I have yet to see any OEM properly protected though.

Other wants:

Front locker differential
Power steering option by factory
Maybe the same DCT transmission as on the Rubicon 500 ATV

If Honda makes some of these changes talked about i'll more than likly buy one. Locker and suspension top 2 things for the 500 for me. But i may just end up with a IRS rubicon 500 with the locker i like them a lot.

I agree with most stated. I don't get the complaints about heat though. Guess I'm fortunate
Your profile pic looks like you don't have a windshield installed... If I close my windshield, it literally sucks heat up through the seats because I have a back window too. It creates a slight vacuum with the windshield and rear panel. It should be really nice in the winter tho...
