I just purchased a 2017 Pioneer 500. I’m looking at upgrading shocks to Elka. I know they upgraded shocks in 2017 model. Will aftermarket shocks make big improvements over stock?

I just purchased headlock rims and STI black diamonds xtr tires 27x9 r12. I plan on running them 3psi.

Thanks

I know there were some suspension changes on the 2017 vs 2015 but travel isn’t different. Will new shocks remedy that?

I put a set of Walker Evans on my 2015. Hated spending $1200 on a set of shocks but it was a big improvement and I have no buyers remorse.

I also was hesitant to spend $1200 on WE shocks for my 2015 500, but am amazed at how much they improved the ride. I ride my 500 hard on the trails, they really help with absorb the big stuff. Well worth the $ and easy to install.

I totally agree with trccflyer! For the aggressive trail riding I sometimes indulge in, the upgrade in shocks makes a noticeable difference. If you mostly go slow and easy they may not be necessary. I bought the front ones first. My wife noticed a positive difference the first ride down our long mountain lane . She told me "Go ahead and buy the back shocks." As cost conscience as she is, her statement about the shocks was a excellent testimonial in itself.

I run mostly slow rocky trails and just put a set of four Elka stage 1s on. Money well spent. In addition to the shocks, I have recently upgraded to 26 inch Bear Claws and 2 inch spacers. The difference in ride is amazing. I thought I needed to upgrade the padding in the seats before these changes - that's not the case - its the stock Honda spring/shock combo that is way too stiff. See my thread in the tire section....

Ovomit paid for my Walker Evans shocks! Stimulus check & AMR15 discount code for 15% off a full set. Next to power steering the best mod so far! I can ride at full throttle with little or no harsh ride.
