Took this one on opening day of rifle season Saturday. My friend got one that was almost identical to it and his son got a five point.
Here is one example where the Antler Restriction law (13” wide) in TX isn’t helpful as this old buck is not legal to shoot and will pass his narrow rack genes on to future generations. He would be a great “first buck” for a youth hunter to harvest. Unfortunately he will have to deal with nature’s answer to old age and not provide table fare for anyone.

I had been watching this buck since early Oct and decided to take him last week. Good mature North Texas buck.
For what ever reason, many processors in the area have had to stop taking deer in as they are full up on cold storage space. The processor I use for sausage said he had over 200 deer brought in opening weekend and it’s been heavy ever since. Now it’s time to really put the smack down on the hogs!

One of the reasons I quit hunting in Florida. Damn bears and stupid rules.
He would be legal by Florida rules but we have rules that are just as stupid if not more so. The rules here are written by big pockets that hunt free on big money land owned by big money people that have their own agenda and to hell with the poor smucks that have to hurt public lands. I no longer hunt deer in Florida and is the reason so many of us hunt out of state. One example is I can hunt with a crossbow in almost every other state in the southeast but not in Florida. STUPID RULES!

I was able to get 3 with my thermal scoped AR from this group last week. Big momma thought she could hide behind the herd in the brush but I found her. Having a bacon wrapped/ cream cheese and jalapeño stuffed blackstrap smoked on the Traeger for dinner tonight!
