2020 sure SUCKED more for some then others

My neighbor was driving his brothers SXS around the end of October with a group of riders when the engine shut down like someone turned it off. They checked the oil, none on the dipstick so they started putting oil in and noticed it was running out on ground. Neighbor ask if I’d be interested in tearing it down this is what I found.

That's what I said but he claims no noise just shut down. I went on-line and give the owner a parts list which he placed the order couple of weeks ago, out of 90 or so parts only 6 were on national back order of course of the 6 there was the case assembly and the balance shaft the others were o rings and gaskets. The back ordered parts are supposed to ship mid December, it's my understanding this motor was only used a couple 3 years due to problems. I found a yamaha forum where there were pics of this motor with the same inspection port in the cases and they talked like was a common problem.

This particular engine really don't like heat. they get hot and use oil (if the head gasket stays intact). This engine don't look starved of oil. Would think over reved. No bueno. Subaru wasn't the best company to take engine designs from.

Looks like the engine beat you to the tearing it down part and the Piston Rod was the reason for no oil in the crankcase because it poked a hole in crankcase .

For some reason he seems stuck on Yamahas, talked about fixing this one and getting a new one next spring.
