I've been running 27"x11"x14" Ripsaws for over a year. I'm using STI HD3 5+2 offset rims, and have never had any rubbing issues. From the retailer (Rocky Mountain), with 10 psi, they were 26 7/8" tall and 10 3/4" wide. I didn't have to do the frame mod ( I was prepared to.), or have to use wheel spacers (sent them back). I have put almost 3,000 miles on this setup, over every type of terrain imaginable. I wouldn't be able to run 28s without doing the frame mod, however. My clearance is 1/4" to 3/8" at best. I have always had enough power to do anything I wanted, and my P500 has never failed to impress me, or anyone I was riding with.

Not all tires of a given size measure the same height. I have heard that zillas run a tad smaller than some others. I've seen people run them on stock wheels and no rubbing. But 27" Kenda HTR's will rub. Any 27"+ is going to be either rubbing or close to rubbing, if not using wheels with more offset, or spacers. I don't think I've ever heard of 26" actually rubbing. Before I bought tires i read every thread I could to see what rubbed and what didn't. So when I bought tires, I was sure I wouldn't have that problem. I'm very happy with the choice I made, but there are surely many other options I'd like just as much.
I hear ya...
if your only running
4 / 5 psi...not gonna get
true tire height. ...

I think this thread is old, but after much reading, I ordered STI Black Diamonds, 27"r12.

These particular tires run small, very small, and I don't think they'll rub at all. I'm slightly disappointed because of their shortness.

I'll update with exact measurements and a picture...

The tires came shrink-wrapped. The fronts measure 25.25" tall. the rears, still shrinkwrapped, are 24.75" tall. Maybe they expand after shrink-wrapping... don't know.

By comparison, the stock tires with 80 miles on them are 23.5" tall.

Overall I'm slightly disappointed that they're not that much taller than the stock tires... probably not worth spending the money to ship them back though.

No problem on bringing up an old post. I been reading some old posts on tires myself. I bought a couple STI Outbacks last summer and put them on the front of my 700 (stock size 25x8x12). I never measured them but they looked small and narrow compared to stock. Looks like about same life time on use in same conditions and I almost have them wore out.

I read your post after this one and saw the pictures. I need to take a few pictures of some 27's I received this week that I'm going to put on my 700 but will also try them on the 500 for fit. I'm gonna run 27x9x12 on all 4.

What kind of tires are those?

To the other poster? Wait till you inflate the tire. An unmounted uninflated tire is not a fair comparison to one that is inflated.

The tires are Rage Storm tires and came from Discount Tire. They come in 6 ply for 12 in and 8 ply for 14 in applications. I bought them on ebay for 296 dollars shipped.

One more questions when will you have these mounted up? Can't wait to see it

The 27" Black Diamond XTR tires are 25.75" with 10 lbs of air.

Half inch gap near the front frame at full turn.

Yeah I did all of my own tire work too. The first one took awhile, but by the 4th one I knew what I was doing.
  1. Break bead with pickup and 2x10 board - takes a few tries, let air out, do one side, then drive over the tire carefully (but not the rim) to get the other side off.
  2. Getting the tire off - I used two tire "spoons" $12 on Amazon - worked pretty well once I watched a Youtube video :)
  3. Put the tire on using same spoons (tricky, youtube helps again)
  4. Seat the bead using the "ratchet strap" method - (thank you YouTube, yet again :)

I got the 4-27x9x12 Rage Storm tires on the 500 today. I put them on a set of 5+2 ITP Steel wheels so I can rotate and move to the P700 also.

I like that setup, however what brand is your bumper/brushguard? Looks like it provides a lot of protection.

Bison bumper front and rear. Both protect well. Front bumper limits you to winch in lower position. I would never be without the rear one. Every 500 needs the rear one and it's that good for 209. I think the rears could use a 1 inch spacer on the rims. Hope this helps

thanks, when I looked at Bison a year ago they looked almost like the factory Honda. I like the center section on your yours. I agree the rear is crucial as when you back up you can smash a lot. I put 1.5" super ATV spacers on the rear of mine with aftermarket tires and wheels and I love the stability.

27s on 14 in 5-2 offset rims, no spacers, no problems. Rides much better.

I like the setup. Is that a wider stance than the stock wheels? I'm not familiar with the stock wheel spacing
Stock tires and wheels
Front tire 24x8x12
Front rim 12x6
Offset 4.5 + 1.5

Rear tire 24x10×12
Rear rim 12x7.5
Offset 6+1.5

4-110 bolt pattern
