About to do my break-in service.
I looked over the manual, P1000 oil change guide, as well as did a quick search on the forum without seeing anything definitive regarding the following question:
Who has used Honda GN4 10-40 instead of 10-30 GN4 with no adverse effects?
Manual recommends 10-30. I have both Honda 10-30 Syn and 10-40 GN4, but not 10-30 GN4.
Any tips/recommendations would be helpful. I'd rather not run syn right away if the 10-40 GN4 will be OK.
Would like to use what I have on hand if I can but don't want to adversely effect my trans.

Use what honda recommends for at least the first oil change or two. It's better for the break in process.

I used the Honda HP4S 10-30. It's been fine so far. I would think the GN4 10-30 or 10-40 would be fine as well. I used 10-40 in the P700 just because that's what the dealer sold me when I bought the rig.

OK, so it is the weight (10-30) as well as the below recommended,
"Pro Honda GN4 4-stroke oil, or equivalent."

Did you use the Syn at the 100 or 600 mark?
Obviously, there is no adverse effect(s) to using Syn seeing the trailer you pulled with it in the other thread. Does Syn thin out quicker, or hold viscosity better at temp? I wandered if one was more resilient than the other to high heat.

They will both hold viscosity between recommended oil changes. They can both hold up at high temp. The difference is that synthetic has smaller molecules that are able to get in to the microscopic wear in the engine which is why it is better to use in higher mileage and older motors although both of the oils are fine to use it personal preference. I just used what the called for in the manual but will probably switch to syn later. Synthetic molecules=BB's non syn molecules= grapes

Good explanation.
So the Honda HP4S 10-30 Syn would still meet the recs by the Manual it appears?

I use GN4 10-40 in my 700 and 1000. It looks almost the same coming out as it did when i put it in.
