Just purchased a 2011 MUV700 with 1500 Miles on it. Finding it uses oil.. 22 oz. in 35 miles. It doesn't show oil leaking on floor so it is somehow going away internally. It does smoke lightly and noticeable only when looking for it. Using Honda GN4 10-40. Anyone have similar experience or ideas of what is causing this? It starts and runs perfectly, good power, and as I mentioned doesn't noticeably smoke. Ideas please.

i would say either the rings are worn allowing oil to get in the combustion chamber or intake valve guides are worn letting oil leakage down valve stems or if it has valve stem seals on the intake valves they could be hard or damaged allowing oil to leak by check the air filter and air cleaner box and intake to engine for traces of dirt or dust the engine could have ingested some dirt and scored the cylinders hope this helps

Typically, worn valves will smoke a bit more during start up and then taper off after a few seconds, while rings usually do it more consistently. As bigc said, it sounds like it either has had a very hard life or ingested mud/dust...it is not anywhere near the mileage it should take to be "worn out". I have 1500 miles on my Pioneer with essentially the same engine, and it uses zero oil.

A leak down test is the best way to isolate the problem. Hopefully, its' the valve seals, which can actually be done without removing the head with the right tools ( on most vehicles ).

Resolution - the Cam Chain Tensioner Lifter sealing bolt/washer was missing and the oil was misting out the left side of the engine and for the most part being dried by dust. The area on the left side of engine was dirty/oily but no oil dripped on floor at night. Also found the oil filter spring and washer was missing so fixed that. Glad there is only 200 hours on this machine...Buyer beware I guess. I've seen this before where a bolt has fallen out of a new Honda and I think the book said after 25 hours, check EVERY bolt and nut. After the burn-in I feel Honda's are bullet proof. My confidence in Honda engines has been restored. Patients is a virtue but it also helps to have a brother who can fix any machine- electrical or mechanical.

New to the forum. But I own the same rig and also have the same problem. No leak no visible some or smell. I use mine 6-8hrs a day for work and have a gazillion hrs and miles on it I'm sure. I had a certified (lol) honda tech tell me that they all do this. So I stopped worrying about it and it's been fine as long as I keep oil in it. But I use the 5w/20 reg oil (nothing fancy) from Walmart.
Hope this helps.

Welcome @Marlo to HONDASXS.com like previously stated it is likely Valve seals, or cam chain tensioner. Being 4 years old it could have been worked on and some little thing not put back just right causing the issue.
