Finally got around to picking up a new air filter element after our food plot excursion. This thing was trashed, keep in mind in this pic there are only 244 miles on the machine. I’m going to look into different air filters, the oem one is a pain, gloves are recommended lol.

I like the OEM filter. Where I am the problem is superfine dust, and even when the outside of the filter is filthy, the inside is perfectly clean. I mean this stuff works its way in through the seams in your boots, leaving your socks brown.

I snorkeled mine to cut down on the debris entering the air box. I also switched to a K&N with a pre-charger but that wasn't the problem... it was the location of the air intake.
X2. I actually read PistonHonda's threads and changed mine over just 2 weeks ago. I've owned my P500 for the last 23X miles. First 11X miles there was mud, debris, and everything else in the air box. I built a snorkel (MN legal - BARELY!) w/ K&N and greased the air box lid for good measure. The next 11X miles were exponentially dustier riding due to no rain and I got a fraction of the junk in the air box. I do not have a precharger yet but recommend it. It's in the works.

I bought the cleaner and oil kit to always have a clean spare ready to go. After going through that BS just decided to keep one of these on hand. It was worth the $20 to me to avoid the time and mess.
Pre-Oiled Air Filter : 3229

Absolutely! I bought the cleaner kit as well and used it once or twice. After trying that I would use 2 or 3 filter socks before ditching the filter. I still have a filter from my P5, that I believe will fit my wifes Rancher as well.

Also I wish I would have snorkled sooner. The factory location required cleaning after every ride.

Sounds like the dust they have down in Oklahoma. We went hog hunting down there and the dust was horrible.

Swapper out the stock filter for a Twin Air filter and using Notoil oil. Cleans up with a bit of powdered cleaner mixed in water to clean the element and then reoil. Biodegradable too. My buddy has a kid that races mx so they have tried it all and this was his recommendation that has so far been great. Also snorkeled with a legging/nylon prefilter. Second pic is after about 400 very dusty miles.

I’ll have to check those out, I think I saw that brand on amazon. Sounds like they are pretty good.

I figured they are way harder on filters racing than I ever could be, so if it works for them it should more than suffice for the pioneer.
