Ordered one of these to try in the Gatekeeper. Supposed to be awesome for crawlers. Integrated ESC so saves you a little space and wiring.
Excuse my ignorance, what do the numbers 1.9 and 2.2 designate? I am looking for tires and wheels for an SCX10-II and these numbers keep showing up.
Wheel size. The overall tire diameter is all over the place regardless though depending on brand. I have some 1.9 Pro-Line tires that are huge compared to the set of 1.9 Axial Maxxis tires that came with the SCX10. If you want a scale looking tire, stick with a 1.9 with a overall diameter around 4.5"-4.75" (I think the stock Axial Maxxis Trepadors are 4.75" OD).Excuse my ignorance, what do the numbers 1.9 and 2.2 designate? Thank you, I kinda thought that but being new to this RC thing you never know!Wheel size. The overall tire diameter is all over the place regardless though depending on brand. It's pretty damn confusing. It seems to be a little better now that the rock crawlers have really taken off. When I got the first SCX10 and was looking for scale size tires similar to the stock tires, they never listed the OD. You'd end up with a 5" tall tire from one company and a 3.5" tire from another so it was really hard to find a "1.9 scale tire". I was just looking around on RPPHobby.com (awesome site for crawler stuff) and almost all the tires include the OD now.Thank you, I kinda thought that but being new to this RC thing you never know!
That's good to know, I plan on building an SCX-10-II with a Proline Ram body and prefer a silver/chrome looking wheel and an aggressive fairly wide tire. It's pretty damn confusing. Between you and JB I will be broker than a cracker on the bottom of the pack!
That's what friends are for!Between you and JB I will be broker than a cracker on the bottom of the pack!
You talking 1/10 or the micros (1/24)? There is no better option than the SCX24 and it's ready to go out of the box for $100-$120 if you're looking for something small. So how much does it cost to get started in a decent crawler? Once again, you guys know how to find ways to spend others money.
Thanks for the great list. Just like a SxS it adds up.I'll throw a few out here. All of these are great 1/10 crawlers. Links are from Amainhobbies.com

There some cheaper options in the Redcat Everest models, but I have no idea on how they perform or hold up. Redcat was cheap toy-grade garbage back when I was racing competitively.
Batteries are dependent upon the model you buy, but 2s and 3s LiPo packs can be had for $25-$35 on Amazon.
Chargers - These are really dependent on what you plan to charge. My XMaxx runs on 8s, so I need 2 x 4s LiPo batteries to run it. On a single channel charger it would take me a couple hours to charge up the two packs I need. I bought a 2 channel charger that will do 10 amps per channel, so I can charge both 4s packs at the same time in around an hour. If you only need to charge one battery, you can get away with a cheaper/simpler charger.
iSDT D2 - $139 (Dual channel)

Venom Pro 4 - $49 (single channel, great beginner charger)

Traxxas EZ-Peak "Completer Package" - $199 (2 channel; Probably best bang for your buck you can get if you go with a Traxxas vehicle as this comes with 2 3s 5000mah LiPo batteries as well)

Starting to understand! HA!Buying RC crawler tires is worse than buying sxs tires
