Found my Toyota locking hubs in my old box of crawler parts. Now it's a real man's machine

@Mopower58 - I saw where you were saying your wife has access to that heat activated film. That's basically what is on the outside of the bodies that they call overspray film. A buddy of mine tried doing it on the inside and the paint bled through all the cuts. It just doesn't stick well enough. If you go with the liquid mask, try applying it to the scrap pieces of lexan on your body before you go at it. You want to be able to basically drag the #11 blade through it without using much force.

What design are you planning on going with on your Ram?
Well I wanted to do this design I had on my SRT RAM. It's not that intricate or flashy but I loved the truck!

Ordered the kid a new radio and one of these esc/motor combos like I'm using in the Gatekeeper. We went to go play and the truck is just way too fast for her even turned down on the ESC. I had cheap rtr radio gear in hers so I couldn't dial the throttle out like I can on mine. She gave the scx24 a workout instead. Battery died on our way back so it got a ride on the GK

Trying out some different things. Overdriven front gearing, 50wt rear shock oil. Climbs so much better. Going to try a wheel weight on the front diff to get some weight.

I was told two oz's per tire? I've been out of the drug business for several years and I need to go buy new scales! HA! LE confiscated my scales before I went to prison. HA! Naw, used to use the scales for fertilizer and nutrients for the plants in my organic garden that I still have!

Tire time...

Tried all of these in the same spot. Loose, dry sandy clay, damp clay, and rocks. These are all 1.9's. From worst to best...

Axial Maxxis Trepadors on RC4WD steel wheels

PXL 20210109 231630711PORTRAIT

These are pretty much s*** all around. They are smaller, narrower, and the hardest compound of all the tires I have. They are the stock tires that come with the SCX10. They don't do anything well except be round. They will also last forever.

Axial BFG KO2 (soft compound) on SSD steel wheels

PXL 20210109 232051292PORTRAIT

These look the most "scale" and do okay on dry rock. They stiffen up pretty quick and then suck on everything if you get any sort of mud/clay in the tread. They have a wide foot print and do not clean out very well.

JConcepts Scorpios (Green compound) on SSD steel wheels

These are awesome on dry rock. Best of any tire I've used. They do okay on the loose stuff because the tread is spaced further apart than the PL KO2 but you still have to hit it with some wheel speed. They load up quick and struggle in damp clay. They don't harden up like the PL when they get a little mud in the tread.

JConcepts Landmines (Green compound) on SSD steel wheels

These are bonkers. They are good in everything. Clean out really well and can slow crawl over things the others would just spin on or have to hit with some wheel speed.

Is this the first tire review for All Things RC?

Now on to the tire bucket. Everyone should have a tire bucket. My old one was a tupperware with a similar brush siliconed into the bottom.

Pro tip: don't put the lid on your damp tupperware tire container and then forget about it for 10 years. There was s*** growing in there that even @100Acre would have thought twice about eating.

New one is a $4 bucket with a $3 brush from Home Depot siliconed in and then screwed in from the bottom. Fill it up to the middle of the bristles with 50/50 Simple Green and water. Preferably warm water if you've got access to it.

PXL 20210109 212447687

Don't dunk the tires or you'll fill them up with water. You don't want that. Just spin them forwards and backwards and scrub the side walls on the bristles. Keep an old towel nearby and wipe them off after you scrub. Some people toss one of those little hand held scrub brushes into the side and use it to scrub as well.

Simple Green is the poor man's traction compound. Clean them in the 50/50 solution and then hit them with an air nozzle. Then put them in a ziploc bag if you're not using them; they'll be super sticky when you pull them out.
