This just might be the answer to a big part of out dusting problems. I was at my local dealer getting the Cabin Comfort installed and while talking to the manager about what a PITA the dust problem is in the P1K5's he said a local upholstery guy has been making up rear door seals...$60 for the pair and you need about 20 push pins. They look a lot better in person than they do in the photo too.

I took the gamble and bought a pair, installed this morning and WOW, with the full windshield closed and the rear window down and zipped there has so far been a HUGE improvement, with dust reduces to nearly zero...NO SH!T.

Obviously more time will tell if sealing the rear doors makes that much difference, but for now it's looking good.

Frigg'n Honda should have had all this straightened out before the dang release of this rig, so we weren't cobble'n crap to together to avoid getting silicosis breathing all this dust.

How is this mod holding up over time?

The mod is working good, but ya, the answer to dust is rain. After modding this, that and anything I can imagine...these rigs are just plain DUSTY and there seems no way around it. I've been very excited after each and every project, but in the end, it feels like you have an open cement bag in the back.

Pray for rain...save your money for gas.

I always thought they didn't seal the doors so water could excape the cab? Does the full enclosed cab kit seal everything up?

Ha! That's exactly what the material is! This upholstery guy takes two strips of seal and sews a wad of some kind or foam in the center, trims it out and leaves a single layer on the ends. If you have a good heavy duty sewing machine, they could easly be made at home.

So far, sealing the rear doors has been amazing at keeping the dust at bay. Now with the comfort kit, 2017 air diverter in front, the zippered rear window, the dust is FINALLY tolerable.

Freaking HONDA! TAKE NOTE if you read forums...seal the dang cabin doors up on these rigs, or at least make a retro kit for the rest of us.
@Plongson, we need to know if this guy is willing to make these door seals for others???

I can open the door and drain water but I couldn't close it hard enough to keep dust out (it pours in through the gap in front doors on a gravel road) so I decided to make my own seals which IMO look as though they could be OEM.

The following were all purchased through Amazon for under $40.

1.3M 4298 Adhesion Promoter, 5 Sponge Applicators
2. 3M VHB Heavy Duty Mounting Tape 5952, 0.5" width x 5yd length
3.3M D-Shape Door Seal 0.59" Height X 0.47" Width, Weather Stripping Hollow Black (10 Feet)

That is really impressive 301!!! It will be interesting to see how well/long that stays put. I can also see how that would help for sealing up in cold weather. Very cool.

I had my doubts about it sticking to the rough plastic but after using the adhesion promoter, I think it's going to last. It's stuck down good enough that it feels like the rubber will tear before coming loose from the door.

The adhesion promoter is a liquid primer of sorts, applied prior to the HD mounting tape? And this list was enough to do the front doors only, or all four doors on a 1000-5?

Yes, it's a sponge applicator inside a sealed packet. I used one packet per door. If measured out correctly, one 10ft length of the weatherstripping will do both front doors. I bought two 10ft packages because I was unsure of how much I would need and I was hoping to get all four doors sealed with 20ft.
I haven't tackled the rear doors yet due to lack of time.

BTW, the 4th pic shows the only gap that is still open, down in the driver side corner. I'm going to see how well it works with 99% of the gap filled and if that corner causes issues I'll get creative with it as well. The initial thought would be to use a larger bulb on the weatherstripping but the 5/8" bulb fits super tight in a few spots and I know that my passengers will never get the door fully latched without me telling them to "SLAM THE SONUVA&ITCH!"

This was my idea also, but the door gaps are so uneven I didn’t know how it would seal. Was the weatherstripping not self adhesive or did you use the double sidded tape for some other reason? What part number for the weatherstripping also.

The weatherstripping is self adhesive but I wasn't sure of strength of its adhesive, whereas, I've dealt with the double sided tape and figured that it would be my best bet in adhering to the textured plastic.

I'm unsure of the part no. My description was a copy/paste directly from Amazon.

That’s the one I was looking at. It description is in metric, didn’t know if that was the same one you used.
