Any interest in a Talon under seat sealed storage box?

Received the first test box made today. It fits perfectly! I don’t have screws yet for the hatch. Picking that up tomorrow.
I know it’s a small box but fills up almost all of the space under the seat. It allows the seat to slide forward and that’s where it needs to be to get the hatch open and out.
Need to drill 3 holes in plastic for some push pin rivets just to hold in place. No way it will fall out for sure.

Pic of an inside corner shows the inside powder coat, full coverage gasket on bottom to reduce rattling of contents and how the bottom flange screws do not protrude inside the box

The bottom is fastened with screws to allow powder coating the inside. The boxes will not come with any foam lining but owners could install foam by removing the bottom.

Sure wish there could be a rectangular opening on top. The 4” round limits what can be stored. I keep my binoculars down there that won’t fit in that hole.

Monte, I fully agree. But I haven’t found or thought of a better, more economical solution yet. The max space for an opening is 4 5/8” x 8 1/2”. And it has to be flush with the box too or I’ll lose more capacity. A hinged opening is probably not possible with these limitations. I continue to sketch out ideas but nothing seems to be the best solution yet. The hatches are cheap for a box that is already expensive to produce.
My glove box is full so I plan is to put everything that I don’t normally need in the under seat box if it fits. Which right now should be everything. Tire plugs, wench remote, spark plugs, etc. That frees up all my glove box space again for phones and such.

If there was a lip that elevated the top of the box in that rectangular space between the seat frame, say 1/2”-3/4” it seems like it would be easy to make a lid, hinged, or compression/friction lid with the right rubber seal....🤔

I can’t make the box raised between the seat frame parts because the way the seat hooks in. This took a lot of foam cutting to get the angle and height right under the sliding seat! The screw in lid is about 1/4” higher than the box top and there is maybe 1/8” of space above that for the seat to snap in place. It’s a tight space!!

I dropped off the x4 driver seat mock-up today. It’s basically the same size as the X2 box but 3 1/4” deeper.

For the X4 passenger side I have to decide on a lid. The relation between seat and box is different on that side. I think I can put a 6” round hatch on that box toward the front of the seat. Plastic will have to be cut for anything to work on passenger side. Current configuration has a capacity of 21 qt.

I gave the shop the go ahead on a test box for the X4 driver seat and what I call an expedition box that replaces and bolts in where the rear seat goes. That’s is a big box! The plans right now for that box include a full access hinged and locking lid.

Ok buddy, I hear ya. What would the price of that box be without the hole cut or the 4” round marine plug in it?

I cleaned out some room from my glove box today by moving stuff to my box. The wired winch remote, the tree saver strap, shackle and first aid bag all got stuffed in the box. Still have a little room for spark plugs and tire plug kit. So it may be a small box with limited opening but that’s stuff I don’t frequently need so it got relocated.

I haven’t settled completely on a price yet. Mainly because now that I have a good working copy I want to discuss with the shop some options I noted to possibly reduce cost. Tomorrow I will weigh the box for shipping. It will also take about 2-3 weeks to get these right now. So I’m not completely ready to cut these loose yet but I’m closer than I was yesterday now with an actual part in my hands. I need just a little more time.

This is what I’d prefer to use and I think it will work. Ordered a few 6” diameter ones last night because I’m almost certain this is what I’ll use for the X4 passenger side front box.

A 6" hatch would make this much more desireable, IMHO.

I agree. Even with all my drafting experience there are somethings I just don’t see until I have a working prototype in my hands to play with.

I work in the petro-chem engineering field. My job consists of designing the piping systems. When I know projects have been completely installed I make a point to go see the installation to learn what I could do different and better next time. No two projects are the same but there is still good information to be gained from each installation. So now you guys will understand a little more about where I’m coming from.
