I have to disagree with this. I have a 840 big bore brute force with 31" outlaws and so far my 700-2 with 28" swamplites has gone in the same places without any issues
Then you don't have a 700. You have a 850, what all did that entail, sounds pretty slick.

I can't see the under powered part of the comments...maybe I'm just an old fart..Mine has done great at anything I've put in front of it..I've climbed over, pulled, hauled, trails, ect. , and I haven't been disappointed. So, it does all I need for it to do, in a real good size for me. Sure a low range would be great...but for it's intended use, it just works. It's not great at anything, but it's REALLY GOOD at everything.
I have no regrets. I don't want the mechanical issues the 1000 had, even though Honda did a fix for them, I'm glad I didn't have to deal with or worry about it. I think the 500 would have been good for me too, but I needed more cab room. My dealer says he doesn't think they will do away with the 700 anytime soon. Just too many folks buy them, and the price point for a 4 seater is very good.

I agree about the power. My P1 has to much power some times, wish it had lower gearing for rock crawling, I'm not a speed demon much any more, but??????

Don't get me wrong, I do not regret buying my 700. It will go anywhere I want it to and at times has also towed another loaded vehicle back to camp. But compared to the other brands with the same size engine, it is a bit lacking a low gear and some get up and go. It is a pack mule. Point it in a direction and it just does it.

I usually let these old power threads pass but truth be told.....for its size and weight I wish I had a couple more ponys and 5 more mph.....
there was no 1000 when I bought my 700.I have easy 16000 in mine now....if I had a 1000 I would be over 20grand in it..
a lot of the 1000 issues are being resolved and Maybe in the future I can have one...but this red machine is here till its death.
I would love to have a true low range I could Idle at 2mph steady....No regrets here at all.....Hell Im still adding crap and planning more accessary builds....

For the way I drove it, i felt the 700's power was adequate. The problem is that power drops as you gain elevation, and there is no escaping this. Starting at about 5000' or so, it starts to struggle with really steep grades and such. This is where it needs a low range. Where most of you are riding...not so much so.
In fact, if i could have 10hp OR a low range in the 700, i would easily take the low range since 10 HP will do you no good if you can never wind your way up to it. And thats kinda the thing with the 700...its a low range away from being the ultimate mountain goat on ANY mountain.

It's durability/reliability CAN'T be debated...only little bro 500 equals it.

I had a 2015 700-4, the 1000 was not avalible yet. The 700 did EVERYTHING I asked it to do. I don't feel it was under powered, I think I just wanted more power! I waited a couple years before I upgraded to a 1000-5 LE. If my dealer wouldnt have given me so much for my 700 I would have kept it for the kids.
Not sure you can compare the 700 and the 1000. They are definitely completey different machines.

I bought my 700-4 Deluxe because it's more than big enough for our needs, has the versatility of its' big brother 1000 with dump bed, stow and go seating, power steering and paddle shifting for manual control. I also decided to go with the 700 because of its' proven reliability. I think a lot more R&D went into the 700 than the 1000. Heat is the enemy of engines and their accessories and the 1000 produces too much of it. I know they've come up with bilge blowers. The 1000 also is having clutch and tran.s issues that have "maybe" also been addressed. The 700 has no such issues. Is the 1000 faster? Sure. Burns more gas too. But both the 700 and 1000 have competitors in their classes that are faster and handle better-that's not why I bought my Honda. I bought it for its' Swiss Army knife-like versatility and its' reliability. The 1000 has yet to prove itself reliable.

My 700 has been great for farm use with four years of reliability. I am still looking at going with a 1000 for some off-farm trail riding. Seriously looking at the new Ranger along with P1000-3

If the 700 even just had 4 speed tranny it would help. It could have a lower 1st gear and have a gear between 2nd and high to bridge the gap. But I'm really nitpicking because I'm very impressed with the 700. For what I got it for it works great.

I agree with that, I wish the 700 could have a 1,2,3 transmission position on the shifter to hold it from excelerating down hill and climbing gears.
My 700 gears itself down whenever I tap the brake pedal and doesn't gear up until I accelerate

Well when I bought my 700-4 I was thinking about where I would be riding more then anything, I live in British Columbia, we've got lots of mountains and lots of tight mountain trails, the only time I wish I had a 1000 is when I'm on the FSR right after unloading off the trailer. But my rule is GET THE F OFF THE FSR! When I'm off and into the trails I can't get going fast even if I wanted too, power isn't an issue the 700 goes up every trail I've thrown it at. Sometime this week I'll post a video of the one very steep hill climb I do with the thing packed with fat guys, 800+ lbs of man beef (same name of the porno I did to get the money for the pioneer)
