I'm going to be doing the Superatv arms, I plan on using all new ball joints. I've looked at a bunch of videos, read a lot of stuff, now comes the time to do it. How are ya'll pressing the old ones out and the new ones in, you know, what kind of tool would work good enough to get this done. I don't plan on doing many more so something crazy expensive I don't need. Also, any tips or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

I just replaced one last night. Threads on bolt were shot. Anyway I borrowed a ball joint press from autozone. Also put new ball joints in freezer for several hours before installing. It shrinks them enough to make install easy.

Definatly order new ones, I usually order from babbitts, partzilla, ebay, RMATV, or wherever is cheapest.

I borrowed a Snap-On ball joint press from the city garage, but if you can't borrow one, some parts stores will loan/rent them out or you can pay a machine shop/garage to do it for you.

I forgot to ask. Are ya'll removing your rear sway bar and leaving it off?
I just asked same question a few days ago and pretty much everyone said same thing: no sway bar is good for the slower more technical trails, it gives you more articulation. Leave it on if you ride frequently with rear passangers and/or faster trails.

I reused my original ball joints. A friend of mine made me some dies to remove/install them. The lower is kind of a pain because there is no lip to press on, outside of the boot. I was able to get the all switched over without issue though. 4ac40d717848c193809574c6e93a09ceD1ed8a5b14a031465d7782882f87060b

Hey Outacntrl, send them to me or bring them to the 2020 TO and I'll zinc plate them for you. That way they won't rust.

In a car it's a rattle on going into a driveway one wheel hitting the threshold at a time. This narrows down the side.

I would assume the same in the sxs, a distinct rattle in the front end on bumps.

How do you know if you need new ball joints ?
jack the front up till tires are off the ground grab top and bottom of tire shake back and forth top to bottom if You feel any movement than you need to look closer at the ball joint itself should be no movement from top to bottom,,,,,

Zinc plating is generally a bad idea for any load bearing steel parts. It causes hydrogen embrittlement and can lead to cracks and fractures along with lessening the load bearing capacity.
Found that out the hard way...

Being that I am a metallurgist, I would of course hydrogen embrittlement relieve them before I returned them. On second thought Outacntrl, a little rust won't hurt those ball joint tools.

They got a light coat of oil and are wrapped up. Hopefully they will rust because I never use them again haha. Thanks for the offer though.
