2nd yr of owning the 1000 thru a winter I wanted to give some insight on daily observations (my previous machine was a P700). This is my daily driver gets started every morning @5:30 am. The machine is stored every nite in a 2 story 3 car unattached garage. Insulated but not heated garage.
I use Honda HP4S full synthetic oil.
The past couple of mornings its been about 4-6 cranks before it fires. @5-10 degrees
No different when I come home from work or lunch.
I give it about 5-10 min warm up while I fire up in the house. 2X this week I got a - sign putting it into reverse backing out of the garage, back into park then reverse again and off I go...Oil pressure is everything with this machine, and even with 10W30 HONDA HP4s its not enough. I had amazing results with Amazoil 0w40 in the 700. But was hesitant on using it on the 1000 with the new clutch system.
-16 tonight with wind, headed back to work to pull out a 250# load of Venison wieners out of the smoker. 6 cranks didnt wanna fire. cranked again, a couple of cranks: battery and light chops and away it went!!! when i ran Amsoil 0 w40 in the 700 it started when I looked at the key: But thats a single lunger!! Waranty is over, time to try a lighter oil for the winter.. My #1 response to all the Honda surveys or talking with Honds reps, including Wayne Lambert: give us an optional block plug heater dont make it standard but make it an accessory. My wifes Honda Pilot has an option for one unfortunately I see her pulling out of the garage with the extension cord still attached!!
