There has been some interest in what everyone has done for a dog box on the back rack. If you got any pictures please share.

Thanks

It depends on what you are looking for. If you want quick, easy, and light, you could just attach a plastic dog kennel to your rack, either permanent, or take it on and off. I'm in a deer hunting lease, that still allows hunting with dogs, and we've been doing this for years. They come in several sizes. The large can haul 2 hound dogs easily. There is an extra large too. Other than that, have a welder custom build you one out of aluminum, or I even think there are companies selling them already built.

This guy seems to be a lot more serious than we are, but I think one box the right size would work. lol

I saw a guy who built a wood box for his P5 with a storage compartment and lid on top.

Have a small box that I could ratchet strap to mine. We haul 3-4 curs hog hunting. Not sure about a wooden box. Not sure if how to go about it for weight and strength.

Know a guy that built a box for the back of his truck for his 3 prize hunting dogs. This guy is a seasoned carpenter and foreman. When he got up north all three had suffocated. Said he put plenty of holes in it and doesn't really know what happened. He's a wreck to this day if and when it comes up.

Maybe carbon monoxide or something. Running dogs since a lad and never heard of anything like that. Maybe one dog being dead from some cause or another but not all of them. Maybe poisoned.

I couldn't imagine what he must've been feeling! Losing one is bad enough, but three all at once? Then not knowing exactly why but knowing it was somehow your fault.
FWIW...Just one of those stories you hear and never forget.

I was going to build one, but decided to pay the money and ordered it from Dustydawgs. I’ll post pictures when I get it.

Put the Dustydawgs on yesterday, took the P5 for a ride scouting elk hunting areas today. I’m happy with it.

Dog is home recovering from knee surgery. I couldn’t bear her sad eyes when I picked up my camo pack and told her she had to stay home.

Thanks. 2 weeks after the ruptured cruciate ligament surgery she’s ‘ready to rumble’ but we have to keep her on a leash, lift her into the pickups, not let her climb stairs, etc. The veterinary surgeon (Bridger Animal Hospital) in Bozeman is great. I met people there who drove from as far as North Dakota for their dog’s surgeries.

Expensive too- but really good.

Just to add, my padded 2-bow case fits perfectly with the 45 degree angles in the upper rack. Safe, secure and not top- heavy. Bungee cords hold it in.

I put a diamond deluxe with top storage that fit a small truck on the rear rack and ratchet strapped it down. Worked good for 4 hounds in it and couldn’t tell it was there.
