This is gonna be a stupid question I’m sure. But directions on putting upper doors say left and right side instead of driver side and passenger side. So is that the left side while looking at it or sitting in it?
Is the drivers side the left or the right

I'm not older than dirt, but I can remember when fire came along, and that was a really big thing. Ever since I can remember, left and right side should always be as you would sit in the vehicle. Drivers side should be LH side.

Driver's side is the left side. Left and right are normally determined by sitting in the driver's seat.

Left and right are from sitting in the front seat.
Drivers side is determined by what country you are in, hence a Japanese company avoids that confusion.
I bet there is a really good story in there somewhere.

I got burned by this recently.

I broke the brake disk splash guard on my 1000s passenger side front.

So I went to the parts diagram, and it shows one hub with two part numbers associated with the splash guard - one for right front, one for left front.

I thought the passenger side was the RIGHT side, so I ordered that one. I received the one for the drivers side.

Apparently, in the Honda world, left and right are from the perspective of standing in front of the vehicle.

Ha, now I looked up the front brake hose I ordered a few months back. It was for the drivers side, and its description is:

45132-HL4-F01 - HOSE, L. FR. BRAKE

So it appears we have an inconsistency here, or an error? I'm confused...

Sanity check - here is what I ordered and received on the splash guard:

SPLASH GUARD, R. FR.
Part # 131179054959

But it fits the drivers side. Correct part number is on the package, so maybe the wrong one was sealed into the wrong package?

Honda made the mistake and sent the wrong part.
