Donkey box frame

List of materials
3 pcs of 1" x 48" x .125" wall square tubing
2 pcs of 1.5" X 24" x .250" wall square tubing
Gussets
6mm T-nuts
Short piece of chain to limit dump angle

I still need to pick up a couple 5/16" pins for the dump pivot, I just used some bolts temporarily

In all this I've figured out my welding skills need some work, it's been about 4 yrs since I've fabbed up anything, by the time I was done it was coming back to me......LOL

Welds don’t have to be pretty so long as they hold.

Made a spare tire mount out of some leftover scrap using the slots in the bed, it'll work for now but gives me some ideas some future projects.

Also reworked the snorkel to accommodate the dump bed, need to wait for warmer weather to paint.

I finally got mine installed the way I want it. The beds sits kinda high and doesnt tilt all the way up but it was the compromise I wanted so I could remove it in about 10 sec and use the factory rack when needed. It is strong enough that I can sit on the tailgate and doesnt move at all. Took some time to get all the measurements but just basically need some 2" angle iron and u bolts. Big thanks again to mudder for getting these, cant believe honda wont offer some kind of bolt on tilt bed like this, would prob cost $1K though!

Got a chance to use my machine quite a bit this past weekend and have to say the bed works great, really like the utility of the machine now. Can fit a large plano box, cooler, bucket, tackle box, poles, gun in the rack, etc and still have room for more. Also forgot how handy just having a tailgate can be. Honestly not sure I will use the dump feature much but I do like being able to remove the bed easily and use the factory rack to keep cg down for trail riding...I took it on some pretty steep trails and you can feel the extra weight with the heavy bed and all the gear when on an off camber, on a machine that is already a little tippy you have to be careful. Still love it though!

Just might try this for a winter project. Any recommended changes after using it a while?

That is about the coolest box that I've seen. I don't know if it is big enough to worry about dumping. Most things should push out easy. Except if you're going to haul dirt or gravel.

Yep, I just slide the stuff out. Maybe these take offs were from a golf club purchase.

So......what’s the chance this 520 dump bed can be an easy fit to our P5’s or has Honda changed framework??? My hopes we can!!

Might be a case where it is actually cheaper to buy the 520 if you really want the 520's bed. Likely depends on how many things you've done to your 500 that you would want to bring over to the new unit.

No doubt, price and availability, especially being a brand model. Just aggravated... just purchased and now a dump is offered 😛. My luck for 2020 has not been good.
