I got fox shocks for both my 1000-3 and 1000-5 yesterday. The 1000-5 had .75" preload on the front and zero on the back. I put 1.25" preload on the front to bring it back up to stock height due to slasher bumber, winch etc. Will adjust the rear after I get to ride some more but looks good at zero for now. The 1000-3 also has zero preload on the rear. But on the front it was set at 3" of preload. I have no accessories on it except for a truck box in the bed. The ground clearance measures the same as stock but it has me baffled as to why about half the preload is already used up. What happens when I add bumper, winch, etc in the future. I have read every thread on here about fox shocks and I dont remember any of them with 3" of preload. My question is do you guys think that is gonna give me issues in the future? I've rode the 1000-5 10 miles last night and love the shocks. Have yet to ride the seater. I think I may lessen preload before I ride it. Thanks for any info.

Preload starts measuring when the nut touches the spring when extended. Pretty sure the 3 and 5 have different length springs so you can't compare it from the top of the threads.

No help here, but I was wondering which wrench you used to adjust the preload. Seems there are a couple that people use, I am just wanting to get the right one.

I stopped at honda of Knoxville and bought 1 for $18 this morning. Its adjustable and ain't anything great but it was all I could get. I've been reading all the old threads on here and most of the links to the wrenches these guys are using don't work anymore. I also ordered this 1 from amazon but haven't received it yet.

I guess I just wont have as must adjustment on the front of the 3 seater.
Different spring rates on the shocks I believe. I have about 2.5" of threads showing on my front of the 1000-5. Mainly to keep the 30" tires out of my bumper. Rear about 1.5" of threads. But I'm running a lift as well.

1.5-2” on the front and 3/4-1” on the back works well on the 5 seater... as said. Different springs on the 3 seater...

I’ve bought several spammer wrenches, including the one posted. And honestly, I like the short cheap one I borrowed from a buddy as well as any. I’m probably going to cut the one I have, like posted, down.

Thanks. I went with 1" on the rear and 1.5" on the front. I have 12 inches ground clearance front and rear with stock tires and half inch skid plate. Rode 60 miles yesterday and LOVE how it rides now.

What tire setup are you running? I got as much comfort from my tires as I did the shocks.

I've still got the stock 27" tires on 12" steel wheels. I was gonna get 28" evos to go on the steel wheels. I bought a another set of stock tires and 12" wheels with a 150 miles for spares but I'm gonna run them this summer and buy tires when I wear them out.

I have that wrench and my Fox shocks are at 2.5” front and 1.5” rear preload. Run rear on medium and front on soft settings. Have 2.5” HL bracket lift and HL arched a-arms. Rides like a dream compared to stock

That 1 looks a lot better than the 1 I got from the honda shop. It will pinch the piss out of u if u let it slip. I believe I will give that 1 a try aslo. Thanks.

So where should I measure the pre-load on the shocks? Is it the amount of threads showing or from the top nut to the collar?

Thanks!

Can’t say it’s the “right way” but I’ve started measuring from the top of the retainer ring to the lip of shock as marked. That gives me the most accurate repeatable measurement as the lock nut on top could have some variation.
