Both shocks can give you the same lift. Just add or take away preload to the spring to get whatever ride height you want.
I thought so, but was not positive. Supposedly, per instructions, these should be set 18 1/2" between center of bolts for best performance. When that was done it lifted my front 2-3" and rear over 1". Pretty sure I could run true 29s, maybe 30s.

I adjusted my fronts to 1.5" of preload adjusted from black collar on top to top of spanner nut. I forgot to check initial height of vehicle before I did this and I am curious as to what kind of gain I achieved. Does anyone have measurements of theirs? I now measure 14" clearance to the front factory skid plate. When I measure my rear clearance to the factory skid, it is 12.75". I have some rear fox shocks on the way and am hoping to gain atleast an inch in the rear. Right now I do not like the way it sits. Oh yeah, factory 27" tires on 12" wheels

If u had it jacked up when u adjusted preload and then lowered it to the ground it will give u a false measurement. Ride it around the driveway and then measure. I had 12.5 but after I rode it was around 11".

So I kept adding preload until I got around 12.5" to the 1/2" skid plate cause that's what I had prior to adding shocks. I was just looking for a better ride not the lift.

Thanks man, exactly what I did and now I am @ 13" to factory skid. The ride is absolutely dialed in the front tho. The 1.5" of preload seems to be perfect. I took the daughter and went ripping thru some pretty rough stuff. The front end is amazing and now even more so highlights just how crappy the rear factory shocks are. haha Can't wait till next week for the rears to arrive.

Snuff, would you happen to know what spring rates come on the fox fronts for both the 3 and 5 seaters.
Here's some info some other members have found on the stock Fox shocks.

Spring Specs
1000-3 LE with Fox shocks
Front = 12.5" length, 2.50 diameter, 225# (033-08-032-2)
Rear = 15.25" length, 3.0 diameter, progressive 171/300# (033-09-000-2)

1000-5 fox shocks
Front = 14.5" length 2.5 diameter, progressive 252/350#
Rear = 15.5" Length 3.0 diameter, progressive 187/350#

From what I've saw the progressive upper coil binds or is very close to at ride height.

Huh.... may be a dumb question, but why would the 5 have longer front shocks? Isn't the suspension the same on both?

The specs are for the springs (I updated that). The shock lengths are the same.

Preload starts measuring when the nut touches the spring when extended. Pretty sure the 3 and 5 have different length springs so you can't compare it from the top of the threads.
this might explain a lot for me. I might need some more R&D. running 1000-3 fox on front of my 1000-5. Might need some new springs, front winch, glass windshield, 2 batteries! @joeymt33

This spring for the front seems to be most commonly swapped to.

You could swap to the 5 seat front springs. Quiet a few members should have some they pulled off.

I think with me being a real big guy plus glass windshield, front batteries, winch, plus ride hard and fast I might want to upgrade to something heavier as well right?

Just from riding in the back yard for a couple min I can already see how the spring is rubbing the shock body. In the pic's below showing them mounted from driver side u can see how close the spring is to the shock body and rub marks as well! Rub marks are rear facing and plenty of spring clearance on spring towards front of machine. On the passangerside its just the opposite, has more spring clearance towards the rear of the machine and is tight and starting to rub in towards the front of the machine? Is this normal? Any thoughts?
