I’m exceeding the suggested oil specs in the manual but I figured the higher operating temp with synthetic would be a good choice. I do however have a seeping gasket somewhere on the front of the motor. I’m curious if the synthetic doesn’t have a bit to do with that. Seems I read somewhere the potential for synthetic oils to move past gaskets over time.

Exactly!
The OEMs do all there design and testing with whatever oil the head office cut a deal with.
And I would wager its not the expensive good stuff.
Then at the request of there marketing department they do some lame add on test to say the synth is ok so the parts department can make a killing selling 'must have' magic snake oil.
Shure it's better and has advantages, but the truck was not designed for it.

Look at it another way, when was the last time you saw an engine with normal maintenance die prematurely from bad oil?
Sure when I was young and Regan was in the White House I baked an engine ('71 Toyota wagon) and had sludge everywhere.
I was A dumb ass (might still be).
But looking on the forums I visit, plenty of vehicles are meeting there end of life but not from bad oil.

The Rancher my wife was riding in Utah is burning oil.
The rings are about shot.
It's 14 years old.
I run it hard around the ranchet and put it away wet.
It plows in winter, mower in Sumer.
My kids have rolled it, my wife just ran it over 10,000 feet altitude twice two weeks ago.
It's old and tired, not ruined from cheap oil.

Lol. Man I’m sorry I think I’d rather something broke then being sick. Biggest kitty you ever met when I’m sick.

I totally buy that.. but spending 50k on a truck makes you want to try and take care of it as best you can. I work my s*** pretty hard and try to maintain it as well as it can be. The turbo and emissions bulls*** made me read a lot before hand as I’m not overly familiar with all the crap they put on newer vehicles. Marketing is the devil when you’re trying to make sound unbiased decisions. My plan with this vehicle was to replace it before 100k and keep the wife in a good dependable newer vehicle. So it’s not like I’m trying to keep it going to 300k and probably shouldn’t worry much about extending the life of it. That’s what an extended warranty is for anyway.. right?

I use to use valvoline exclusively but switched to the penzoil in a full synthetic with the ecoboost.

Truth be told its probably all.made in the same place anymore...i do know that Napa branded oil is made by Valvoline.
One of the napa managers told me the same thing years ago so I always bought napa synthetic on sale it's a great deal.

I was also told years ago that pennzoil has more detergents in it and that's what would cause issues if you switched to it. It would break loose more of the gunk and cause problems like blow by on the pistons. I dont know if any of that is true anymore. Its probably all damn near the same.

Glad you still appreciate me being tight!

When our team went to Argentina in college it wasn’t a problem... there were 40+ of us rugby players and we f***ing could buy glass liters bottles of good beer (Stella)!! It was like the best week ever! @Kilo427 did I ever tell you this story? Lol..

You mean when you were a college athlete? No I don't think that you have ever mentioned you were in college and an athlete. Looking at you these days I would never know the you played sport in college or in other words were a collegiate athlete. I however did love argentina when I went although It wasn't as a college athlete I just went hunting. Did ok got about 3000 doves in a day there. Oh and the steaks and wine were fantastic as well.
