I am currently using my 2007 Honda Odyssey and a 2019 Carry-on 6’x8’ single axle trailer to haul my P500. I get about 22 mpg just driving my van but when towing drop down to anywhere from 10–13 mpg. What is everyone else using and what kind of mileage are you getting both just driving and when hauling your buggy? Can a P500 fit in a 6 1/2’ bed with the tailgate down?

My old truck, a 2009 double cab Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 I'd get around 18 to 20mpg on the hwy without pulling a trailer. When pulling Pockets on my 16ft flatbed I'd get 11 to 12 mpg.

My new truck a 2024 Z71 CC 2500 HD without a trailer about 17mpg on hwy, with Pockets on the trailer about 10 mpg on flat ground. It is what it is. I'm not complaining.

I get as high as 23mpg on cruise (mile or 2 over the speed limit) 19.5-21 average mostly with a light load and my hard cover on the truck. I have a 24’ 3500 GMC Denali ultimate Duramax.
If I haul my tandem or inclosed with my sxs or sleds depending on the wind, hills, no hills etc. i get bet 12-15mpg. If Im hauling my 41’ TH 5er In the same conditions I get 9.5-14.
All conditions is with my foot out of it, driving normal.

Yes you can put a P5 in a 6-1/2 foot bed, get u some tailgate supports if u go that rout. If u have an 8’ bed like i did with my P5 no worries needed

Yep, that's the one. I believe Ford and GM collaborated on the structural build up of it but then separated ways. Ford took it and they programed it and put in their trucks. GM took it and programed it then gave it to Allison Transmissions to see if it was worth a s*** and they "approved what GM did" with it. GM then paid Allison a bunch of money to put their name on it and put it in their trucks. It is a super smooth transmission. I pulled a 20ft gooseneck and my buddies intimidator utv around a 1000 miles back in July. Maybe 7 to 8000 pounds GTW. Pulled it like a champ. Really like the truck so far.

Yeah they are still working together on it.
The only “separate ways” is the different plants they made at and I guess u can say they programming and torque converters for each respected motors applied to.
I still have some contacts “ Ford engineers” that I usr to work with at Roush that are still working with GM Engineers on the Tranny.
All is good with the two of them.

If I had a 5th wheel that big I'd definitely have gotten a diesel. Plus I didn't want to have to mess with Def.
The deff isnt as bad as ituse to be.
On my 15’ platinum that I just traded this past January it had 168,000 on it. I always had DPF issues with it that were small often on from about 110 on but to be expected. No different than other motor issue problems.

I did not want to have to buy a big box of pee, try and carry it out to my truck without spilling my 40oz and snacks on the ground, pour it in my truck and then try and figure out what to do with the empty box cuz it won't fit in the trash can. Also my wife would never see the low Def warning light on the dash. She'd run the truck dry and call me saying "I don't know what happened, it was driving fine and then just quit, IDK" lol.

First, Im not a supporter of it. I think its Government communism overreach and BS. But we have it and unfortunately have to deal with it .
A few things with your issues lol.
First, you dont have to buy the box, its sold readily at the pump now easy peasy.
Second, you dont have to do it often at all. They hold only 5 gallaons and depends on your driving habits. For example, I have 12k miles on my truck and haul alot, Ive filled the tank 2 times.
Third, the warnings are quite vigilant. 500 miles to empty on the first one. And Im sure you will be driving when that comes up unless your wife is going ona 500 mile trip when it comes up lol.
Honestly its really not that bad. Not necessary. but not that bad so dont sweat it.
If u need one and dont get one cuz of it, all ypur doing is playing in the Communists Lefts hands. Roal Coal baby! 😉

If you're running your truck down to the light coming on, there's no doubt you're having DPF issues. You should always top off at no lower than 1/2 tank and if your vehicle has sat for 3 months or longer, drain the tank before driving. Running one low bakes the DEF Header, and not operating one much causes issues as the DEF fluid starts to crystalize and messes things up

My P5 would not fit with the tailgate up in my 8’ bed F350. It was close but no cigar on closing. I just removed my tailgate for the trip but this should give you a great idea of what it looks like….

All of my tools, accessories, parts and pieces.

Just drove up to MI from MO. I checked my mileage based on a calculator. Not based on the computer display. My truck speed is verified by GPS with the Smarty Programmer set to to the correct tire size for correct speedometer and miles output.

Round trip I checked at every fill up approximately 300 miles each stop. Worst was 11.1MPG. Best was 13.06MPG.

I try to keep track of our long trips and adjust the Smarty to attempt to get the best fuel mileage.


I have not been to a dyno but when my mods are compared to others who have been I should be around 500HP and 700-800ft lbs of tq at the wheels.

Once over 55MPH I set the cruise and I have not found a hill yet that causes me to downshift over 60MPH. Ever.... Not exaggerating.

If I recall correctly, you are a larger man? With some mobility issues? Loading and unloading a p500 from the bed of a truck might not be too kind on your body.

What kind of distances are you wanting to travel in the future? Your minivan and open trailer at 10-13 really isn't horrible in the scheme of things. If you want slightly better, remove the windshield & roof from the p500 before travelling.
