I am in the process of checking my valve clearance on my 700-4 . I have never checked them can't hear them making any noise but think it is a good idea to do so. Started taking it apart today and found this piece of foil laying on exhaust pipe .I think it's a heat shield. Any ideas on what to use to replace it with

I found that same piece of foil on mine laying on the ground after washing her. It looks like it goes under the plastic in the center of the seatbelts. I did not replace but noticed a little more heat coming out. Interested in the replacement also.

I think it goes above the header below the middle of the plastic under the seat.

You can see where it was glued to the plastic under the seat might check at local auto parts store to see if they have any type of heat shield material

Ok I was wrong. It goes towards the front and its verticals behind the plastic behind your calves. It's just foil tape you use on furnace pipes..

I thought it went there.Im getting ready to do an auxiliary battery install and noticed.

The big question here, is this piece of foil necessary? It looks so chintzy.

Mines been off for a couple of years or 3000 miles ago. The plastic in the middle does get a little warm on the back of your legs if your in the middle, but other then that, it hasn't melted anything. I thought about installing a piece of offset aluminum shield, kind of like a heat sink, but I haven't got around to it. Maybe in a couple of more years.

My grandson burned the back of his leg. Nothing serious but enough that he cried. I plan to add an insulating foil like @swsebek mentioned.

Went on a 4 mile ride this afternoon when we got home I took the seat out and checked to see how hot the plastic cover under the seat was . Almost to hot to touch got to get something to put back under there . It may have been like that before but now I will think about it every time we ride
