So I had the idea to make a heater. They can be bought for 150ish with the ability to run ducting for vents.

Or I can buy all the stuff for around 80 bucks but with no vents. Advantage, when I make the plenum I could duct it to take air from inside of the cab, instead of under the hood or seats where steam is. Also I could make a spot to hold a filter in the intake.

Any ideas on why this would or would not work? Think it's worth it to just pony the extra 70 bucks for a premade unit? Has anyone tried building their own yet?

Just be careful with the shut off valve. I did the same thing on mine as you are thinking. And taped into the coolent system through the oil cooler line as honda does with the install of their heaters. If you you were to close that line off you would be cooking your oil. I just planned on hooking my heaterlines back to them selfs once the weather gets warmer

Youll also need a 1/2" to 5/8" adapter union
