First off thanks to all you guys that post all the great information on here that you do. You sold me on my first sxs, a 2018 P1K5 deluxe. It just hit 100 miles so time for the modding to begin! I've been wanting a winch and decided against using the stock bumper, and I was shocked when I saw the prices of some of the nicer aftermarket bumpers.. So I decided I would make my own.. I had the 7 gauge AR400 from another project a few years ago, so far I only have $5 worth of foam board invested!

It's still a work in progress, it weights about 60 pounds right now. It's off and ready to be welded up, cleaned, and painted. I plan to top mount the winch and maybe add some kind of brush guard after I decide which winch I want. I'll post some more pictures of it once it's finished.

That AR400 plate is good stuff, shouldn't bend!

Looking good! I am sure there is a reason for it, but wondering why the square tubing is angled, rather than squared?

The square tubing fits inside the Honda upper frame mounts like the stock bumper. This is a really good idea. The aftermarket mounts skimp on the square on square engagement and it makes for a flimsy upper mount.

Bumper looks good but I prefer to have the upper edge of the bumper below the headlight surround. 3/16" is definitely beefy enough, if not overkill.

Better late than never.. I got the bumper welded up, painted, and mounted back on the pioneer to mark where the mounting holes need to be drilled. I will get some better daylight pictures tomorrow hopefully.

Thanks guys! I can't wait to test it out this weekend. It's definitely not perfect and I notice every imperfection of course, but I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I'm thinking about trying one of those 5k lb harbor freight winches first. Although I'm a little concerned with how the winch is going to affect the bumper since the winch will be mounted so high above the frame rails where the majority of the support is. I'm worried the distance between the bumper mounts and the winch will act like a lever and try and bend the bumper forward and downwards as I winch on it. I guess we shall see!

Time will tell but I believe that bumper will hold up just fine.

After the winch goes on I want to add some kind of bar that protects the headlights better and gives me something to mount a light bar above the winch. I like the look of the rough country bumper/brush guard and might try and copy it. I also though about putting some flush mount leds cubes below the headlights.
