P1000 In dash cup holders

Went out to try the adult beverage cup holders on the 1000 tonight and also a morning recovery mug. I had to push the can down a bit and it liked snapped in tight, thought great if I ever tip over I won't lose the can but then realized it would pour out anyway. Then I drank 1/2 and kind of crushed the can taking it out. Being a light weight I went for the coffee mug and it didn't go down very far. So after looking a little closer my cup holders were not installed properly I don't believe, after a little flat blade work I got the ears of the cup holder pushed back and under the hold down flange and whalla, now they work like every other cup holder. Flanges are toward the front and back about 1/2 way up the holder.

I don't know if we could grind enough to get the Yeti's in there, will save them for the camp fire I guess. Here is a before and after pic with no grinding, just installing the cup holder the way I think it was designed to be.

Can you elaborate on what you mean? The pics look like you obviously did something to make the cup fit further down but I can't figure out what.

I'll try and get a better pic but if you look inside the cup holder there is a slot at the dash height in both the front and back. The dash itself has a couple of ears that are slightly larger than the hole for the cup holder that are supposed to snap into the horizontal grooves. When they install the cup holder these dash ears push down and don't snap into the cup groove so it holds out a portion of the bottom of the cup holder. Once you get the dash ears into the cup holder then the lower part can be pushed back. These grooves in the cup holder are about 1 1/4" long and the cup material isn't that thick but if not installed properly it is like putting the round can in an egg shaped hole. If you put a can in there and it drops to the bottom without any friction your good, if it grabs the can it isn't installed correctly in my opinion.

Sounds as though you may have had an improperly installed cup holder. Just some missed in QC or setup. I have had no issue in dropping a 12oz "coke" can or normal round bottle that could contain an adult beverage into it, even with a neoprene hugger. By removing the drop in cup holder I have actually toted my Yeti 30oz on cold mornings when copious quantities of coffee are required.

Here's the pic showing where the problem might occur. At the horizontal slot, if the cup holder isn't down far enough the dash ear hold the mid part of the cup holder out into the cup space. Once this is in place it is not easy to remove the cup holder to fit a Yeti.

Use a bigger hammer....

Sorry, I could t resist.

There are two tabs the protrude from the dash and though the cup holder. The cup holder snaps into place by forcing it over these tabs. It's much harder to remove it, but I just put a blade under it and pried it up with out hurting anything.

Thanks very much. Pulling those out would probably helped when I was fishing wire over the weekend.

I made a new cup holder out of black PVC pipe and 12ga steel plate. Turned 5 degree taper on ID of pipe to match Yeti cup taper. Fits like a glove and still room for center occupant with cups removed.
