Anyone have and experience with a Jeep Gladiator? Either good or bad?

Looking at a 2020 Sport S model. My current truck is a ‘13 F-150. It’s been great but it’s at 203,000 miles and is leaking from every place fluid can leak from and sounds like it wants to be put out to pasture.

I have a 2020, Rubicon. I love it. It doesn't wheel as well as a Wrangler, but you gain a (small) truck bed and decent towing capability. The Pentastar V6 is pretty boring, but a proven motor.

Try to get one with the Max Tow option, avoid the 6speed manual (IMO).

The Gladiator owner's forum is a good source for info, but you gotta tune out the fan bois.

Oh, and I'm not young . . . 🙂

I have a 2021 JTR that I absolutely love. Funnest vehicle I've ever had. I got it as an all-around truck. I hunt quite a bit and wanted something that could get me wherever I wanted to go, and it does. It hauls my P5 just fine (now), hauls my hunting gear around in the bed with an ARE cap, is quite comfortable IMO, and it just looks cool. I get so many compliments on it by random folks at stop lights or just driving around. The 35s initially killed the power and made it underwhelming to drive. However, I swapped in 5.13 gears and a new ACT clutch and its a whole new beast.

😢😢😢

The 6sp does get a bad rap, but, its the factory clutch that's the problem. The 6sp itself is a dream, especially with adequate final drive gearing (which the factory 4.10s are not for the 6sp). Jeep, in all of their wisdom, put a completely inadequate clutch in the truck. Per ACT clutch, its legitimately rated at like 10ftlb more than the engine produces. Its F'n ridiculous that Jeep moved forward with it knowing its weak. There is essentially zero pedal feel because its so light, so it can be a bit vague to drive.

That being said, I knew going into it that I would soon be replacing the clutch. It was either fork over another $2k for the auto (which, as you know, is a phenomenal tranny), or put that $2k saved towards an aftermarket clutch and have a completely reliable 6sp. I chose the latter. No ragrets. Not even a single letter.

My only gripe is the derated towing with the 6sp at 4500lb (vs 7,000lb for the auto), solely because of the weak clutch. That's ridiculous and unfortunately something I can't change no matter how strong of a clutch I put in it. Thanks Jeep. Regardless, its plenty for just about everything I tow, so for me its more of just an annoyance.

I often tow 4-6K, so . . .
A mid-sized truck with a rating of 4500 is pretty bad, as you mentioned. Glad you found the fix! The option to row your own has gotten really scarce.
Oddly, the overall length and the wheelbase are nearly identical to my 2006 Suburban. It's a pretty stable towing platform.

Sport model with Max Tow is rated at 7650.

@Glock21user might could give you some insight. I think he and his son do a lot with Jeeps.

Appreciate everyone’s input. I decided against a Gladiator. The back seats were just too small for my teenagers and I need more towing capacity for my camper. Maybe someday.

What kind of poor life choice will you be making next?

Yes Hemi with the 8 speed. Fully loaded. All my other trucks have been base models so this feels like a luxury vehicle to me. Before my Ford I had a ‘08 Dodge 1500hd with the mega cab which treated me well until about 160,000.

Yea all this pro ford talk and I did some research and ford f150’s have had the highest recalls of pickups the past three years! We love ours for lighter towing, sometimes I do miss the Ram 3500 Megs Cab diesel when towing. Congrats on the RAM.
