I have a 2021 JTR that I absolutely love. Funnest vehicle I've ever had. I got it as an all-around truck. I hunt quite a bit and wanted something that could get me wherever I wanted to go, and it does. It hauls my P5 just fine (now), hauls my hunting gear around in the bed with an ARE cap, is quite comfortable IMO, and it just looks cool. I get so many compliments on it by random folks at stop lights or just driving around. The 35s initially killed the power and made it underwhelming to drive. However, I swapped in 5.13 gears and a new ACT clutch and its a whole new beast.
avoid the 6speed manual (IMO).
😢😢😢
The 6sp does get a bad rap, but, its the factory clutch that's the problem. The 6sp itself is a dream, especially with adequate final drive gearing (which the factory 4.10s are not for the 6sp). Jeep, in all of their wisdom, put a completely inadequate clutch in the truck. Per ACT clutch, its legitimately rated at like 10ftlb more than the engine produces. Its F'n ridiculous that Jeep moved forward with it knowing its weak. There is essentially zero pedal feel because its so light, so it can be a bit vague to drive.
That being said, I knew going into it that I would soon be replacing the clutch. It was either fork over another $2k for the auto (which, as you know, is a phenomenal tranny), or put that $2k saved towards an aftermarket clutch and have a completely reliable 6sp. I chose the latter. No ragrets. Not even a single letter.
My only gripe is the derated towing with the 6sp at 4500lb (vs 7,000lb for the auto), solely because of the weak clutch. That's ridiculous and unfortunately something I can't change no matter how strong of a clutch I put in it. Thanks Jeep. Regardless, its plenty for just about everything I tow, so for me its more of just an annoyance.
