Finally found a picture of the fabled Earl (still haven’t found his last name) camp host at paradise and the only summertime resident on the Selway along the MC. Some have said invite him to your campfire at night and offer him a beer (or three) and the stories will flow!!!! :D

He’s spent a lifetime of backpacking the Selway and Frank Church wildernesses.

Looking at the map it appears that there’s a time zone change along the MC at the continental divide/Nez Perce Pass!!!

I often wonder how many Gnomes I'll meet on this trip in Idaho......Selway River, Falls and Slims CG. This was coming in from the north off of Idaho Scenic Byway 12. I love that road and the Lochsa River that flows alongside it. Many great stories. Tons of campsites along 12. I once drove through the area west to east just before the forest service closed the road due to fire. That was intense! Seeing fire, ash, embers and real heavy smoke. Lots of fire crews. Lolo Pass you couldn't see anything due to the smoke it was so bad there.

Yeah 12 is cool, and the Lolo Motorway, that parallels it slightly to the north, and along the original footprint of the northern Nez Perce trail that Lewis and Clark used, would be really cool for a subsequent SXS cross country..

Probably should've just started my own thread. lol. I'm sure I've shared some of these before. Especially this 1st picture of the Selway. 2nd two pix are the actual falls. Not very big but the water was flowing pretty heavy that day. So, they may've been covered up by the flow. Y'all should watch the Lochsa river madness videos of the the crazy rafters. some folks that live on the other side oh the rivers or creeks have some awesome bridges and cable cars to ferry goods and themselves across the water. Amazing area!

I want to say that most of those old bridges I come across have mostly been dated 1934. What's the significance?

FDR commissioned the Civilian Conservation Corp to build all manner of infrastructure across the country during the Great Depression as a means to both improve the lives of Americans and provide employment for some of those 25% of Americans that couldn’t find jobs and feed their families. Like the WPA, good sound programs.
