My next step now is to fabricate (from 1/8” steel) a direct receiver attachment (painted black) that this rack will carriage bolt to. Minimalist but ample support.

Make sure to angle it up a bit. Maybe even build or buy a hitch extension and t-off straight up?

I’m going to build it all because I want it light weight. 2x2 square tubing with 1/8” wall coming out of the receiver, cut at a 45 then turning straight up just clearing the trailer by a 1/2” or so vertical 12” with a 2x2 I/8” angle iron 2 foot long welded to the top, and the rack carriage bolted to that. With one of those u-bolt stabilizers on it coming out of the receiver.

I have never went through the Magruder Corridor (but it is on my bucket list now that I have the P5) but in 2009 we did drive far enough in to see Burnt Knobb Lookout, about 30 in from Elk City.


We put a volkswagen seat on the back of the ATV.

I agree with the others about going to Buffalo Hump. I have many fond memories from my childhood and early adult life going to this beautiful place, then came kids.

I think another place to go is the Seven Devils. Last time we went up was about 35 years ago, BK (before kids). You turn of Highway 95 just south of the town of Riggins. If I remember right it is only about 16 miles up but took about 2 hours in a vehicle. At the end of the road is a lookout called Heavens Gate and is still staffed during the summer. It is just a short walk to it and you can see into four states. I have pictures but don't know where they are at this time.
