Good news!!From the
U.S. Forest Service - Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests
Facebook page......
Great news for forest visitors - the Magruder Road (Forest Service Road [HASHTAG]#468[/HASHTAG], aka the Montana Road) is now open for the season!
Magruder Road is a steep, primitive Forest Service road that is not maintained for through travel. The road is open seasonally based on snow levels, typically thawing out around the Fourth of July.
I would like to do a round trip of the Magruder Corridor (Montana Road) east to west and back from Darby MT to Elk City ID with all the side excursions along the way. Camping along the trail with a Motel or other stay at Elk City, the half way point in the trip for a hot meal and shower. I’m thinking 6-7 days. I would be towing my tiny trailer.
Thinking about mid to late July 2019. I would like to see what kind of interest there might be for those who live in the region (or farther away for that matter) and hit up any and all that already have experience with all or portions of it, starting with @mjn??
An Idaho OHV sticker/permit is required for use.
That’s for sure......Just the same, bring a chainsaw!
Did you already go and if so, what trails did you ride? That would be a great trip but I’m planning on Moab in June.
I will be laid up in a Hospital bed for a few weeks during this ride! I will keep, with what's happening during the time frame if coherent.Join the ride, July 20-26.....
Hopes for good health and a speedy recovery. There’s no cell service along the MC so pics and documentation will be posted after the ride is completed, perhaps a little during the elk city reprieve if there’s cell service there.I will be laid up in a Hospital bed for a few weeks during this ride! Mackay is great riding for sure. Go a little further and ride the Copper Basin, Wildhorse, Phi Kappa and the North Fork trails you will not be disappointed. On the third week in May, us and some friends of ours traveled to Lolo Montana then south to Darby. We spent the night there and checked out the Magruder Corridor from this end. It is 12 miles outside of Darby and there is a pull off that you can unload at. It was still closed because of snow and the first 4 miles is still on the pavement so we did not unload. We spent the night and then headed to Mackey Id. 188 miles south.
We went there because I found a you tube video that tells about all of the trails that you can go on with your sXs, it was a lot of fun! We spent three days there and never got to go on all of the trails. We reached 7000 ft. before we were stopped because of snow. If you want to check this out, the city was a map on their web site. We definitely will be back, as Mackey sits on the highway, the trails are on one side of the town and we visited the Forest Service and found that they have tails on the other side of the town.
Just thought I would throw this out there.
Borrow your buddy’s.....I can not make the MC ride. I busted up my trailer on a rough rode and just do not have the time to get it roadworthy for the trip.
