Hi guys,

Thinking about upgrading my stock tires to Maxxis Bighorn 2.0. I want to move up to 27", which from everything I am reading, should work just fine. The stock tires are 25x8x12(front) and 25x10x12(rear). I was on Rocky Mountain ATV, and size they have available are 27x9x12 & 27x11x12. Will these wider tires be an issue on the stock rims?

Thanks for any help. Also, feel free to chime in with any advise.

John

I can't speak for this exact size but I have the Maxis Ceros in 26x9 and 26x11 and don't have any trouble with the extra width. I wouldn't think you should have trouble with the extra height but hopefully someone will chime in. Enjoy that 700.

I owned a 700 and can't imagine this being an issue on the 700. Today, I own a P500 and went up to 25" tires and very happy with the performance. I do know Bighorn tires are highly regarded and suspect strongly you will enjoy the new tires.

I had 26" BH 2.0's mounted on stock P500 wheels. 9's up front and 11's in rear. Never had a problem with the beads or anything.

I would do 27x10x12 all around,That way you could rotate them and only need one size spare...

If he stays with stock rims I don't think he can rotate without wheel spacers . I tried to see if my rears would fit the front and they touched the brake line

Awesome. Thanks for all of your replies. My stock tires still have life left, so I'll have to give my wife a good reason why I need new ones. Another inch of ground clearance is my main reason, but the 6 ply is another.

The six ply argument wins over the sweetheart most times,

since now that you're married the idea of a flat tire out in the pucker bush doesn't usually go over to well!

Hi guys, I finally pulled the trigger on the Maxxis Bighorn 2.0s. Just wanted to show you some pics. I haven't had a chance to run them except for a quick trip around the property, so I can't comment on them yet. I will say, I measured my ground clearance before and after, and I gained almost 1.5 inches, which was a little more than I expected.

Great looking tires. I was looking at the same tire combination for my P500 (the 500 and 700 use the same wheels). I am impressed by the increased ground clearance you got. I will need to add spacers on the P5 to keep it from falling over.

When I did my research i found that the fronts (27 x 9 x 12) are 4 ply and the rears (27 x 11 x 12) are 6 ply. It looks like these are OEM tires for some Can Am models and are not part of the Maxxis aftermarket line. I am curious if yours are 6 ply front and rear? Maybe Maxxis has changed their lineup since i looked at it last. How are the tires working out for you?

Hi JJdog,

I thought they were all 6 ply, front and rear. But after reading your post, I checked back on Rocky Mt ATV, and you are correct, the fronts are 4 ply, which disappoints me. That was one of the main reasons I went with this tire. But looking at the description of the fronts (27x9-12), it states "6-ply rating on all tires except the 27x9-12 tire it is a 4-ply". That seems odd that they'd make them all 6 ply except 1 particular size.

The tires are working fine for me. I don't don't much extreme riding, just trails and roads.

Thanks Clarky. Glad you like the new tires. They look real good on your rig.

I was considering using Bighorn Originals 27x9-12 on the front and the Bighorn 2.0 27x11-12 on the rear. That way i would get 6 ply on all tires. The Bighorn Originals come in a 27x12-12 not 27x11-12 so I think they might be too wide for the stock rims. Also the Bighorn Originals are heavier and more expensive.

Does anyone see an issue with mixing the BH Originals with the BH 2.0?
