I been told that 3000 mile is a lot on these. If 99.9% of your driving is back roads and street why wouldn't these last 30-50k miles?
3000 miles all off road climbing, rough ground all the time, then I could see 3000 could be a lot of miles...Wrong /Right?

I don't know who would buy a $15-20K machine that's only good for 3K miles.

It's a Honda 4 stroke motor. I'm at 10K miles and just getting started. The only reason you're not seeing a lot of really high mileage units out there is because they're relatively young on the market, but we're seeing several 30K reports from some of the higher mileage guys.

I see no reason not to expect 50K out of this motor before it needs a refresh.

I agree with you all, I know totally different technology but I had a old Honda 750 motorcycle 1976 or 1977 model and when I was done with it I tried to destroy it, redlining over and over..thing seem unbreakable...I know Honda is high quality but I don't know anything about these today..I also had Honda Blackbird, and Accords, about the only Honda I didn't care for was the lawn mowers

My 1000-5 is at 10,971 miles of nothing but gravel roads. It's currently out of commission for the last 6 weeks due to the upper a-arm tabs being ripped from the frame. $6300 worth of damage. These gravel roads are hard on these machines! JAH!

9months old and 1800 miles on mine, with a mix of everything from over loading it on the farm to mud, sand, pavement, No issues so far and I'm sure it has been driven HARD at times with 3 teenage boys (All farm trails are rutted in the curves now from drifting/spinning.) Only issue has been one of the boys ran a broken T post through the side wall of a tire at 800 miles which forced me to upgrade tires. I figure its just getting broken in , and I am currently adding accessories to make me feel more safe to run the Hatfield and McCoy trail system solo this coming year and beyond.

@JasonBoh that's good miles.

Since you have multiple operators, especially teens, the first thing I drill into anyone running my machine is:

1) Full stop and idle before hitting a shift lever (absolutely before reverse.)

And

2) Never slip the clutches.

Posted for posterity. If you want a lot of miles without big problems, you teach this to everyone running your Honda.

When I was first reading up on P1000's - not all that long ago, I believe it was on this forum (though I may be mistaken) that some where asserting they didn't bother to come to a full stop before shifting. Just slow down, or some such gibberish. The user manual, the stickers plastered on the glove box door, and P1K5Dave all say. Full stop, so that's what this "slow learner don't wannabe" does. Either shift lever, full stop, and foot of the gas first too.

4,000 miles in the first year, 4 oil changes from Spring 21 to Winter 21. Keep good clean, quality oil in her and she's good to go. Look on Craigslist at the Honda 3 and 4 wheelers from the 80s beat to no end that still start on first pull. We have a long way to go beyond 3000 miles IMHO, Cheers!
