Seems like P500 are in pretty high demand. Realistically, how much negotiation is there on a new one? Asking for a friend?

Seems like it's a geographical thing. Some places the 500 seems to sell, others, not so much.
Check Abernathy's or logans in WV to see what could be done. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean the local dealer will do it.

I was able to buy my 2018 brand new, out the door after tax and registration and dealer BS etc, for $8775. But I know that timing is important, and there seem to be good deals in the fall.

Hum.... being in Alaska will likely limit a great deal, unless you're friend is extremely patience, watches ads, equipped with cash and can execute quickly....

That seems to be a fair price, not great. Being in AK will limit you're negotiating power since dealers are few & far between. If you have cash and can flop $8500 on the salesmanship desk I bet you'd have yourself a P5.
