Hey guys, I've been waiting to post until I had read enough to make sure I wasn't asking stupid or repetitive questions. But an opportunity has popped up that makes me feel the need to jump in and get some advice. I've pretty much read the entire internet researching my upcoming purchase of a 700-4 Deluxe. Just waiting for this virus bulls*** to ease up somewhat (dealership isn't even open). Anyway, I'm starting to re-think. I've found a 2016 1000-5 Deluxe with 3950 miles on it for $11,300. So, a couple grand cheaper. It's only 3" wider and 3" longer, but it's 2" shorter, and it's turning radius is a foot shorter. Seems to be a lot more machine as well. Before I go down this road, would any of you guys with a 700 do the same thing in retrospect? Other than cost, why did you choose 700? Thanks n advance for your thoughts, and Happy Easter!

It's ok, all questions are stupid.... 🤣 Welcome from the Farm. I went from a 500 to a 1000-5. But I bought a new one from Abernathy's in Tennessee whom have the best prices in the nation. Check there 1st! Not sure about buying a used one. Be welcome!

The machine has to be good for you and your needs. I chose the 7hundo for a few reasons and yes, cost was the big one. But as I rode it, more reasons popped up. With the torque converter you can pretty much crawl at 1/2 MPH and not harm anything. The 675cc engine has been proven as the design has been around for a while now. The controls are simple and should last a long time. With less power, it makes it easier to let the young ones drive without worrying about wrecking something or someone. If I was to buy another $x$, it’d be another 7hundo. Don’t let me sway you because if you’re asking to compare, you’re probably better off in a P1K. They’re apples to oranges. 😉

I own a 700 deluxe price was not a factor . It's reputation for dependability is accurate. At the time there were so many issues I read about with the other I was Leary of it. They next time I will possibly buy a 1000 they seem to be all good now. But I have 0 regrets on my 700 and I think it will continue to give great service. For me personally it would be a tough choice. But a 1000 would be nice.

Can someone with a 700-4 deluxe and a Factory hard top tell me exactly how tall it is? Which tires? I'm pretty sure I'd upgrade to 27" if I go with the 700. I've got exactly 82 1/2" to get into the garage. That extra couple inches on the 1000, tighter turning radius, and 12" of ground clearance are pretty tempting. I'm really worried about buying used however.

I chose the 700/4 deluxe not because of cost but for need. If I had to do over, I would do the same. I run 27/9/12 at all corners, Tusk Terrabites. If I needed more speed, then the 1000 would've been in play. If I wanted to play in the mud I would've chose a different tire for that purpose. Buying used is a concern for me unless I know the person and the machine.

Mines not a 4 but highest point will be the same 81.5 inches with 27s. I have an 8ft garage door height with room to spare

First of all, welcome to the club. The choice between the 700 and 1000 is a tough one as funny as that sounds. As @JenElio stated above, I’ve had all three so here goes. The 700 is the most reliable of the three in my opinion. The engine performs well and has pretty good pedal snap for only being 36hp. The torque converter tranny is very durable and tough as nails. There’s not a lot of extras to go wrong, it’s a simple design that works well. The only negative in my opinion is they don’t like to be loaded down at high altitude but what machine really does?
The 1000 is a beast, you won’t lack for power unless you upsize you’re tires several sizes. It’s a great machine and performs very well and is tough in its own right. The transmission is good but more susceptible to damage compared to the other two pioneers. Most damage is operator error. I personally would not buy the used 1000 unless you know who had it but that’s just me. If you buy it and have issues it can be costly and make for a bad experience. If you’re not buying it to trail ride in the mountains or need that extra spot for a fifth passenger then I’d buy the 700....or if you’re going to spend the money then I’d consider a new 1000. It’s a tough choice but I wouldn’t think twice about buying that new 700. Hope this helps. 😉

Thanks everyone for you thoughtful insights. This is the used rig I was considering:

2016 Honda PIONEER 1000-5 - DELUXE

After reading everything you guys offered, buying something with practically 4000 miles on it just doesn't seem wise at any price. Sure, I'd really like a 1000. But if all I can afford is the 700 it sure doesn't sound like I'll be disappointed.

I dont want to nudge you anymore towards the P1K5 but if you are willing to take a small trip this looks like a really good deal. I'm stealing this screen shot from @Russ989

Damn you! :p That's cheaper than the listed price at my local dealer for a 700-4 deluxe! I've got to check them out. I'm wondering, If I'm from Illinois and buy it in Missouri, do I have to pay sales tax? Thanks Russ!
