Not sure why you think it's hard to be an outdoorsman in California? The whole state is not Los Angeles. We have a lot of remote county and wilderness areas. My wife and I put 2 bucks in the freezer this last deer season and I just put a wild pig in the freezer Saturday. We cut our own firewood and heat our home with it.

No, but the whole state is governed by the same codified laws. He's probably assuming that hunting firearms and ammo is as restrictive in CA as self-defense and 'scary' firearms and ammo. I'm sure it's MORE restrictive compared to many other states, but not to the point where you can't enjoy hunting ... clearly.
