How many of you have had your p700 just stop turning the wheels? Its happened to me a few times when I have a moderate to heavy load, when going up a steep hill or climbing out of a steep banked mud hole. The engine just wont even spin the tires. 3000-4000 feet elevation. Usually will go if I have passengers step out, but not always.

No , Never.... and I've been up some pretty steep hills and creek banks...most of the time my passenger (wife) is telling me to "take it easy"........there must be something that needs some attention for it to act like that...doesn't sound like an engine issue, maybe an oil flow issue to the converter, or even as simple as a low oil issue. The only time I've heard of something like this is when it is cold outside and the engine oil is not warmed up enough to flow thru the converter/transmission.

Check the spark arrestor in the muffler?

Check oil level, if it's even slightly low it will not work well on steep hills.

I've had it happen several times to me when I had the P700. But I had 28" tires. It would stop in thick mud or steep hills. I have the same experiences as you that if the passengers step out I could usually climb the hill. I also ride at several thousand feet of elevation or lower.

I'm in the mountains at Hatfield McCoy trails, have climbs trails that are 45 degree+ without issue. Running 26x9 Bighorn all the way around.

Oil level and spark arrestor look good. Still wondering if the buggy just aint got the power, but hoping there is something that can be fixed. Any other ideas?

Does not stall usually. It has happened in 4wd and diff lock. Never in 2wd but have not tried super steep hills or bad mud holes in 2wd for obvious reasons.

When it is happening what are you doing with the throttle? foot to the floor? or a steady position the whole time?

It has happened when stuck, tried to ease into it and pin it without success. Climbing a very steep hill it has happened a couple times where it was pedal to the floor and just ran ran out of steam at the steepest part. Stopped and tried to take off again slowly, but would not go.

@Theron i didn't see what model year you own, seems like the pre o2 sensored buggies had issues. Most of the '15's and on don't have any problems. I had mine ('15) up in northern nh (don't know what elevataion) going up some pretty steep mountian sides loaded with gear and I still had plenty of throttle to go.

I'm sorry to say that I don't think there is anything wrong with you machine. Just the nature of the 700 with the automatic. I've tried it where I come to a complete stop at the bottom of a hill and trying to ease into it, it just sits there. I will say that if it's still going forward to just keep it going. I shot a cow elk 2 years ago and we wrestled her in the back with all our other hunting gear. There wasn't anyroom so we had 3 adults averaging about 250 in the front and climbed one of the steeper hills Ive been on with about 6 inches of snow on it at about 8000 feet. Granted it wasn't a ball of fire and it wasn't a super long pull but we made it to the top. I just kept it floored and we climbed out about 2 miles an hour. My only complaint was the there is no room for 3 adults in the front of a 700. Please be careful. The nice thing about the 700 is you shouldn't have to ease into it to get it going.

I have the 2016 model. With 28" tires it strains at times. But I have never had it stop. I think it would break something first.

All my experience has been low altitude.

Mine is the original 2014. I have been in a lot of situations and usually it just keeps chugging along slow but sure. This has only happened a handful of times, guess its just the nature of the beast.

You have it figured out. The 700 lacks a little on power. Sad thing is this machine with just one more gear and 10 more horsepower and paddles like the 17 would be awesome and sell like hotcakes.

I agree. If Yamaha can make a reliable 700 (686) with 10 more horsepower, I would think Honda could get 5 more out of the Pioneer 700 (675). Even 5 hp would be a 13% increase, but as you said a low gear would solve the problem too. I guess every machine is a compromise in some way. I have considered upgrading to the 1000 but that is a bigger machine and I like the 700's size, especially in tight areas, not to mention all of the upgrades I have done to make this thing a legit off road vehicle. I borrowed my buddies 1000-5 for this weekends hunt, so we'll see how I feel when I get back.

Uh oh. You will have a grin on your face after using your buddies 1000. :D

If honda would just put lower gears in the front and rear diff would make alot of difference the p500 has lower diff gears that would be perfect for the p700 just no one knows if they will interchange I believe the rear ends are the same the front I don't know cuz of the locker
